I just adopted 2 Cochins. I was told one white and one blue splash. I have never had Cochins nor have I ever heard of the breed until a couple days ago. I was told they were born on May 3 and I put them in with my now 7 day old Chicks Born on the 7th (Brahmas, Australorp & Barred Rock) they are...
So glad this question was put out there. You can find anything on BYC! I have chicks 7 days old however they did not send me a couple of light Brahmas I ordered so I am anticipating them to be here next week. That will make my babies now 2 weeks old and them 1 day old. I don't have the room in...
I just brought home a chick that has a prolapsed vent and a bald butt and was very dirty. I couldn't send him back. So I just put his bum in some warm water and washed him off with warm water. I have him in a warm washcloth wrapped (like a nest) he is sleeping. I am hoping this is sufficient to...
I just picked up a chick today with the same issue except she has no fuzz on her butt at all. Its bald! I didn't notice until I got her home. The other chicks were picking at her butt at first but now they are not. After reading through this thread I am going to put her hiney is some warm water...
I work with an animal rescue and people are always dumping their dogs on someone else for some reason or another (moving to no animal land, sudden allergies after 10 years, having a baby, etc) chickens are no less important than a dog so that is my reasoning and my opinion as they get scared...
Giving away to me is the same as dumping. I would never dump an animal. I have a friend who is going to take him. When I take responsibility for a animal its mine always. I felt guilty not wanting the little guy. He is so darn cute. Thanks for the advice!
The hatchery just confirmed it is an Araucana Roo. Thanks for your help. Im not happy and now I don't know what to do. I can only have one roo where I live. Im not the type to just dump my birds.
Thank you so much. It took me a year to decide to get a roo and I was very specific about the one I wanted. Do you mind if I send you some more pictures of my babies?
They did have my Brahmas so I made the switch but I still think my roo may not be as he has no feathers on his feet. He's 6 days old so we shall see what he is in several months for now I'm calling him Dexter
The feed store did give me 2 EEs and they had my Brahmas. Made the switch and very happy. Still curious about my roo. I do not think he is a Brahma we shall see what he is in several months I guess! Lol I'm calling him Dexter
I specifically ordered brahmas. Waited 2 months for them to get here. Hate are the 4 I got the 3rd one suppose to be the light roo and the last one is the only one with feathers on her legs
