Sorry it took so long, but here is the contents of the mystery box i won! A customized chicken watching kit!
As for my hatch, it was disappointing, 4/27 Turkey, 3/3 SFH, 2/3 barnyard mix. I have no luck with shipped eggs, plus they hung in PO an extra day, so much for thanksgiving, lol
Four Turkey out early yesterday, not due until Monda recorded my mystery package from there poetry contest, but didn't get to try it out yets let me just say, it REALLY pays to take a risk sometimes! I'll post a pic later.
Lockdown! Did a last candle last night and pulled 10. That leaves 14 Turkey +6 tutors. I have them split between two hatchers in case of issues. My last Turkey hatch I only got 1/5 in lockdown, so time will tell.
I use game bird starter for everyone, chicken, Turkey, quail. Beats having so many bags around. I don't feed Medicated, so can't help there. The game bird starter is higher protein. Doesn't hurt the chicks, from what I see.
My uncalibrated gauges both read around 50%, andI had no condensation, so I * think* humidity was in the right range. Temp may have been a little low slightly under 99, but I hate to mess with it too much during lockdown.
I'm not disappointed, I can always try more!
Well, I had four Swedish Flier Hens hatch. Two more pipped, but died, and one never pipped. Time torecheck temperature and maybe add even more ventilation before next week! It is almost impossible to add more humidity, I have so much water surface area now
I've had a broody kick out eggs that weren't developing. I'm convinced they can tell! When a broody kicks out an egg, I just toss it, assuming it is bad.
Seven chicken eggs go to lockdown today. See what happens. I really haven't paid much attention during this hatch.
Wow, I put way too little thought into hatching. My Tempe are +/- a degree fluctuation and humidity in Bator between 19 and 27, if I believe my gauges. I don't weigh, and lockdown is between 45 and 60. I use a couple gauges and rough estimate where I think it is in my head. Some hatches are...
I have no idea! There are a few local people who want some. I wasn't a few. Of course developing at this point and actually having are two different things. I'll know better in two weeks. My hatches vary between miserable and good. I've never had over about 70%, and that was with my own eggs.
Ah spring! Everything need done yesterday! Lawn Harden, cleaning....
And two more weeks of wait, wait,, wait.......
At least I have some chickens due for lockdown next weekend.
