I had 33 chickens in June and I have been so proud of my flock. They are quite a pampered bunch of birds..Or were pampered. I sell eggs locally to friends and family and I really just keep the birds because I think they are neat, only fellow chicken owners can understand. Well starting in mid...
So, a friend and I split an order of pullets from Ideal. We got 30 of the pullet surprise. Well, imagine our surprise when it took 2 days for them to arrive from TX. We are in OK and all Ideal orders have typically arrived in 1 day. Well look at the zip on the box and they are from NM and...
So I finally did it, I processed my roos. And while I was processing I got so cold because it was 15degrees outside and I brought them inside the garage. It took me 3 hours to totally process them. I plucked them mostly but there were those pin feathers and I think my fingers were going to...
I have meaties that are scheduled to process Wed and last night I fed them before I went to bed and then I woke up this morning and one of my biggest birds was frozen solid dead. I figure it is a heart attack. I want to cut it open and see what happened because it was so close to processing...
I need some major help. I have meaties that just turned 8 weeks old. They are nearing their processing date but, we had had major setback this week when it rained for a day and 1/2 and then it started snowing. The birds are in a tractor covered to keep dry except the driving rain made my...
I am getting meaties for the first time this week. I want to know how long I must brood them before they can manage the cold. I live in Oklahoma and the nights are in the 40's right now but, it could get colder or warmer any minute. If we made a tractor for them and moved it around every few...
I have read the other threads regarding prolapse and so far I am at a loss. She laid an egg yesterday that was larger then usual and it was bloody. Today I noticed she had caking on her bum so I took a look and it was a grape sized prolapse. I have cleaned her by soaking her in epsom salt...
I had 5 eggs under my little Barred cohin and I checked on her this morning and there were two eggs with little pips. I am a proud mama She is my fav and it doesn't surprise me that she would be my first broody. She is spoiled.
How long does it usually take from pip to zip? Also, I want her...
I have a broody Bantam Barred rock cochin and she has been sitting on a clutch since the last day of August. I took her off today to take a peek and give her some water. This is what I found in the nest, does it look right? I have no idea what a hatching chick is suppose to look like...
I was sold these on Friday and they were sold as Splash/Blue Marans. The pullet and cockerel both have feathered feet. They are 8 months old and she is not laying yet. Could you please help me identify. The wheaten color on the male has me concerned they are not splashes.
Thank you,
Andrea

I know many of you bought straight run chicks from the various sources and I was wondering what did you get? Mine are about 6 weeks old and here is a list of what I got in my many trips to Atwoods.
2RIR pullets, 6EE4 pullet and 2 roo, 1 black Frizzle Roo, 3 golden Comet pullets, 1 bar rock...
My husband went to the lumber yard and got into the culled lumber pile and he got T1-11 for 5 bucks a seet 3/4 inch and several 3/4in plywood sheets and some sheathing for the roof.. So he got all of my wood and 4 windows 12.50 each for about 150.00 YAHOO.

I am a newbie and I was wondering...What books are must haves for a chicken newbie? I want to add 3-4 books preferably one with health issues, another with info on general raising of chicks and chickens, and one or two about breeds and temperament.
I have lots to choose from and it is a bit...
A few days ago I was putting the 1 gallon waterer in the brooder and one of my 4 1/2 week old chicks ran under it. She got her toe stuck and I didn't realize until she was screaming that it was there. I took it out and didn't really see anything wrong. Now, it is several days later and I...
I watered and fed my chicks last night before bed. I woke up this morning and they were totally out of food and their water was bone dry. I added water with vitamins to help them and they drank like crazy. They were less interested in the food, it was scattered on the floor so I doubt they...
