I've been gone along time from BYC.... Since then, in the last year or so, we have had many changes.
I imagine after so long, few, if any, BYCers, will remember me...but that's ok.
To update quickly, I left long ago, because my youngest, then 15 months old, was diagnosed with terminal brain...
Our family is begining a new enterprise, and we are looking for some nice pictures of roosters AND other poultry!! Chickens, geese, quail, peacocks, swans, etc..
What we need are pictures we can reproduce on labels of our product. We havent decided wether we are going to use 'real' roosters...
4 days ago we got 2 pygmy goats and we were told one if not both are pregnant. Im about 99% sure one of them isnt (a good thing, she's not super healthy, but thats another long story), but the other one... Im not sure.
I am new to pregnant goats, so any opinions would be much appreciated...
many of my young hens came of laying age just as the season turned and days got shorter, so I havent gotten any eggs from them. I have added an artficial light to their henhouse for 2 hours in the morning and 2 more hours at night. I just did this yesterday.
I am wondering how long it takes...
We have several ducks who were bought around June 1st of this year. They are all pretty big now and eating like pigs! We have Mallards, Runners (not sure what type, some are tan though) also we have a few blue ducks, but not sure the type but I think swedish blue,(the boy has a green bill), and...
Got to thinking about predators and my own system and with Halloween coming I had an idea or two....
First I have a decent fence around my pen, and I put electric fencing inside it. The electric was EXPENSIVE and it got broken soon after we put it up, so really its not too much protection...
My garden overproduced yellow crookneck squash, zucchini, and tomatoes. More than we could use or even give away. So I have been giving quite a bit to my flock.
The flock is mostly Jersey Giants, along with a few guinea fowl and about 9 ducks, approx. 35 fowl in all. They have been getting the...
I have several Blue, Black, and Splash Jersey Giant roo's for sale. I bought them as chicks from Maria Hall, and they arrived here at my home about a week before Easter, this year. They are about 17 to 18 weeks old now. I have 5 or maybe 6 roo's I am interested in selling. There are only 2...
My garden is about done for the year, so now I am wondering which plants have leaves that are safe for chickens to eat.
Here's what is out there, if anyone can tell me which are no-no's or which are safe, I would really appreciate it! I wont be feeding the roots of anything, just the tops...
This is our first time growing pumpkins. The sprouts were labeled 'Jack O Lantern'. Now we have 2 small, very orange pumpkins and 1 green one still growing.
My questions are- How long do we leave them on the vine?
Will they last till Halloween?
Do they keep growing bigger after they turn...
Anyone know what kind of spider this is? I mean, besides obviously evil, sneaky, ugly and needing to DIE.
And is it poisonous??? We have these ugly beasties EVERYWHERE around here, and I am paranoid one is going to bite the kids or me.
I am NOT spider friendly- I pretty much think...
I recently hatched some blue-ish eggs from one of my easter egger chickens, my only roosters are a blue Jersey Giant and a Splash Jersey Giant (have since re-homed the splash due to attitude issues), and the babies all came out splash and blue! They are really cute and I LOVE their coloring (I...
Came across this article today and I must say I am suprised and disgusted by the law AND the responses from people towards the law.
The new 'law' says you can NOt breastfeed a child over 2 years old in public. WHAT???!!! Who are they to determine what age is appropriate to breastfeed a child in...
I have a broody hen that had a rotten egg in her clutch, which I discarded, but now I think there may be another bad one in the bunch. Im not sure though since the rotten egg smell has gone away a little bit, but not all the way. The eggs are due to hatch any day now, I dont keep a perfect count...
If you are into bee-keeping, and are willing to come get these, bee's, they are yours for the taking! My hubby thinks they are a danger, so they have to go. I am trying to get them removed before he decides to spray them with poison and kill them. Of course, I am worried my chickens may eat the...
I have 2 BIG Jersey roo's that need new homes! They are about 16 months old. They are nice guys, will eat treats from our hands and I have no aggression problems from them. They free range with the flock and pretty much mind their own business when people are around. My young children can hand...
Just wondering if its ok to trim just the flight feathers on full grown guineas? I am getting 5 new 9 months olds, and while their enclosure is fairly escape proof, I would like to trim the flight feathers as extra insurance against them flying off. I'm not worried about predators or anything...
We have 3 purebred Boston Terrier puppies looking for new homes!
They were born Jan 27th and are about 9 weeks old now. Black and white with a tiny amount of brindle. Not the tiny, pocket size dogs, they will be in the 18 to 25 lb range as they reach adulthood. The female is more petite, the...
I have a young puppy who has developed a small cherry eye condition, and I'm wondering if there is anything I can do about it? Its not real bad and not blocking her vision, and I'm pretty sure its a genetic thing since her dad had it. Are there any remedies besides surgery? She is too young for...
I recently got electric netting/fencing for my run and coop, its 80 feet long and 3 feet tall. Its not fancy, just the netting and the plain stakes to anchor it to the ground.
I followed all the directions when setting it up (had my hubby help just to sure I was doing it right and as a just in...
