I hope this isn't the wrong forum for this post, and I apologize if it is.
I have 29 meaties that are overdue for going to freezer camp. My FIL was going to slaughter them with me, as this will be my first time, but we've all got so many things going on that there just isn't any time - I'm...
So excited - I'll post a pic once he gets here. Timing is perfect - farrier is coming Monday for trimmings, and the vet is coming Wednesday for checkups!
I can't wait to post a picture of him sleek and healthy - thank you everyone for the advice on putting weight on an older horse! Here's the...
This is what I get for not checking a bunnies junk myself! We have 3 Lionhead bunnies - all were supposed to be female. The breeder was positive that Oreo (black and white lionhead) was a girl, so I didn't check her myself. Looked last night - and *She* is a *He*. I only want these guys for...
For those that have followed my recent string of posts about our animals and recent equine additions, you may get a kick out of this.
I gave Gitana (our new thoroughbred) a few days to settle in and then introduced her to the other 3 horses. Trigger (pony) was in love at first sniff and...
We're adopting Sarge - I posted about him here . He's in his late 20's - what would you recommend to get weight back on him quickly and safely, and after that what would you recommend for maintenance?
He won't be arriving at our farm for another week or two, so I gave his current owners a...
I've wanted to add a kid-safe horse to our farm for my son to ride, so yesterday we drove 2 hours to look at Sarg - a retired Cincinnati Mounted Police Horse. He's thin and in need of the grazing we have in abundance here, but I'm so excited!! He'll be a wonderful companion to our blind...
Went out this morning and the pop door was opened and chickens were already ranging - I assumed my FIL had opened it. 8 Silkie babies, my blue and copper EE, and a blue Silkie roo are missing. Since everyone was out and already scattered I thought maybe the missing flock members were ranging a...
I'm in a picture sharing mood! These are some of the animals that share our farm with the chickens.
This is my quarter horse mare, Blaze. She's a feisty girl that runs the show around here, and she's also Bobby's "seeing eye horse" - she takes care of him.
This is our blind paint gelding...
I moved my meaties from the brooder coop in the barn to an outside grow coop I rushed to build, and we haven't lost one since. Previously I was losing 1 a day or every other day for unknown reasons. They're now on grass, the coop is being moved 2x a day, and it's much roomier.
Anyone else...
Thinking about getting an incubator, looking to spend $80 or less - this will not be used on a large scale.
Considering this incubator from TSC (also buy the auto-egg turner). Anyone recommend it, or a different incubator for similar pricing?
Wouldn't mind having this sticker to put on it...
I'll post pics tomorrow, but here's the developments at our farm this weekend...
The 6 Light Brahma (3 pullets, 3 roos) have joined the main flock. They stick together like glue but are LOVING the free ranging.
The Silkie and EE babies have begun outside adventures (supervised) and their cage...
I'm so excited! I bought PVC today to make an auto feeder and also an auto waterer for my Aquamiser chicken nipples. I think I have the feeder figured out, but has anyone here made an auto waterer? I was thinking of using a bucket (elevated) dropping down to a pvc bar with the nipples attached...
Is it love or insanity when you're outside, in a thunderstorm, pouring rain, lying in the mud, coaxing pullets out from under the coop so you can lock up for the night?
Not sure which.
It's their second night in the coop with the big gals - they seem determined to take up housekeeping under the...
