I was interested in some critique. I got this guy with a few hens. If what I'm reading is right, the waddles are a dq for show. Is he worth keeping as a breeder, or should I look for another rooster? Thanks! Side note he's very timid and won't hold still for a photo and pose at the same...
Hello all,
So I raised this boy and fell in love. His daddy was a light lemon cuckoo and his mother was either a white or gold lace, any thoughts? I just got in chicks and was going to put him with buff hens when they come of age (he's got a couple barred cochin x buff brahma hens to keep...
Okay that's what I thought.

Hello all, I'm trying to consolidate my birds for the winter and have a dilemma maybe ya'll can help me with. I started raising silkies this year and have this left after raising chicks and acquiring young birds and keeping my favorites from the stock.
Cage 1 a grey hen from last fall (i...
I had avoided this book because it I had the guide to raising poultry by Leonard S. Mercia, and he had originally written the turkey guide. I was not impressed by his methods of care described in the poultry edition. Can anyone tell me if Don Schrider edited and revised the old edition or...
So this is my first time incubating eggs I ordered thru the mail. I was just wondering if 3 out of 16 was good? 3 having viable chicks growing and 13 being duds? They are about half way done "baking" so praying I get all three babies. I understand shipping is tricky business, I don't blame...
I have hatched birds in the turner, sometimes by mistake with dates, sometimes in a pinch with staggered hatches. A couple problems with this method are 1. some weaker chicks won't hatch because of the egg moving, I also had a couple quail drowned in fluid in the egg when it tilted over. 2. it...
Fescue can effect pregnant horses, but that is like if it is the only food source and lots of it causing late term miscarriages. Its suppose to be great to feed my pet leopard tortoise, with other grass and hays. Have no clue about it being bad for birds?
Found an article that says toms have 76 while hens have 77 chromosomes! http://www.biolbull.org/content/61/2/157.full.pdf
And compare them to ducks, so keep your woodduck away from the turkey, lmao!
Saw one link say peacocks have 44, but it wasn't a science page and found no proof to back it...

Same site but a photo of the "chicken chair" mid way down the page. I had a tall narrow yogurt container to use, cut a hole to slip its head thru, covered the sharp edge with tape, then cut a flap out the opposite side...
That's what I thought, the fix it fast part. I kept fooling with him when I could yesterday, putting him facing a corner with his legs under him. I'll make him a "cage" he's doing better, but still scooting. Thanks!
BBB are designed to eat alot and gain weight fast, like a cornish x rock chicken. A tom at 20 weeks, should be a 20# dressed carcass bird, which will take up almost your whole oven (holy cow my first year butching/cooking, but it was good) and it will get alittle bigger if left. You can pray...
I had a bourbon red poult hatch last night and some how get stuck under the thermometer with one leg stretched out behind it, and caught on its back. I put him in the brooder and after a while realized he wasn't folding his leg up under him, so I taped them. Now he can fold his leg again,so I...
Sorry, I'm at a loss and about to kill a friend over this, you may want to come help me after you hear the cliff notes of the story! So this friend, who got in over her head in chickens, never owned them before, went to various feed stores and got about 50 chicks, then ordered 100 more. Ages...
I have racoons in the creek behind the house, but they haven't really bothered my birds. The only exception was a big male that was very boney, killed a rooster I had in growout rabbit cages, and it was fall right after the first frost. I think it was a desprate attempt to get food before...
Some of my bird pens can be reached by coyotes, and I use 2 x 4 wire to keep the coyotes or dogs out! Then a finer wire to keep the birds in, even chicken wire works. I have bite marks on the 2x4 stuff from coyotes, but the only birds they killed were some pheasants that panicked and jump up...
Next time I come to NC I might could make a detour. And that was the answer I was looking for, thank you very much! I'm going to hunt around locally some more and save my pennies then to order some birds or eggs.
