Cream Legbar Working Group: Standard of Perfection

I believe to qualify for participation in what would lead to the acceptance process, the show participants must be APA members for 5 years and also breeders of that breed variety for 5 years in an APA "sponsored" show for it to count towards that process.

    Cream Legbars

Quote: Looking good! Love the barring. I miss my Legbars. I may get some eggs next spring from the guy who purchased my birds last year. He did not breed any so far so I don't know what they could look like this generation. But I miss them and I just don't know if I want to do 2 breeds but...

Cream Legbar Working Group: Standard of Perfection

I agree with Kara. No 1 has better barring, even in his saddle and secondariy feathers. Watch the tails but i like the slope of the back on no 1 in these pics better. His lobes are not as good as 2. They both have the s comb which is unfortunate but frequent. The barring wont change but type...

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Phew! I didn't know what to say. Well from these images I'd say the only thing would be the width of the back end and tail. Folks say you need a nice 'V' in the back. I'm still of the mind set that you will breed more dark than correctly colored going forward but your girls do have nice hackle...

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Their tails look really tight and narrow but I am curious about the breast. Is the white the feather color or are they covered with something as I've never seen Black Coppers with that coloring on their breasts before? Is it paint or ash or something? Their combs look odd and they seem to have...

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I understand entirely. It is such a balancing act. I finally moved a male i love type and size wise to my cull pen because his breast is just to colored. Watch the top line of your boy here. The angle seems off and more slanted up than down but it could be just the photo, stance or space he's in

He is very dark. What some term over-melanized. He should have more color on his saddle and shoulders. The lack of saddle color would concern me and I personally would not breed one so dark. My females do not have great hackle color....it would be a road to nowhere. You have to take into account...

    White Sport Cream Legbars

Why would you want to breed this into your flok and so wide spred?

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I have some questions about shank and foot color. Hoping Don will chip in an opinion What issues would one face with breeding a rooster that has lighter than slate legs? The legs of the siblings are correct What would be worse or better pale legs or colored breast? Comb question - What about...

    Black Copper Marans discussion thread

More than likely they will not have featered shanks as adults. The feathering is usually evident at hatch. It can fall out and regrow as the birds molt with age and future growth. Sometimes the feathering is so slight its not noticable and the adult may end up with just a few feathers but more...

    Black Copper Marans discussion thread

If you use your blue you will have a BBS flock. You could do a blue pen but you would not want to breed any back into your Black Coppers. You could try breeding your colorful boy but that may perpetuate it in the males but some say they get good results or you could use your best dark male with...

    Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Thanks for this update. I'm hoping for at least some good pullets. I'm hoping that egg color is at least a 4-5.... Growing out the boys will be another story I'm surr but looking forward to it. More chicks next week and thats it for the year.

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

My hatch rates on shipped and my own BCM eggs picked up when i started dry-incubating. I prefer chick shipments but they are more expensive. I think humidity control is the key.

    Black Copper Marans discussion thread

i am looking forward to seeing them grow out. I had a batch out of a Missippi breeder that were her line earlier this year and kept the only 3 pullets. They are all over melanized and never developed any mossiness while some of the boys grew out with a bit of color on their breast before I...
