I have to brag now... Elphaba laid her fourth egg today and it weighed 2 ounces! her first egg was 1.4 oz. and Snowball's egg (leghorn) was 2.3 ounces and she's been laying for about a year now... Wow! I hope Elphaba's eggs stay big!!
A note on the roosters: I would gladly keep a rooster if
A: We had enough room in the coop
and B: They would be quiet enough so that the entire neighborhood wouldn't hear them crow. (I'm illegal... sort of... )
My Lorp has crazy eye color- one is darker brown, and the other is solid gray. Weird, I've never seen different eye colors in one chicken before. Another sign that Elphaba is definitely not "breeding quality."
Thanks for the broodiness clarification. All of these australorps are looking real good! I'm not in town now, but when I get back I'll introduce my now 16 wk. olds to the hens.
I've tried asking this a few times, but I guess we were caught up in Marek's/vitamin deficiencies, so I will try once more.
How often do your Australorps go broody??
