The first hen was still warm when I found her it was when I was letting them out for the day and realized I was missing one and she was lying beside a divider I have dead, thought maybe she had hit her head when she came off the roost, which can happen the second one in the same pen was...

I am having a dilemma, I want to see if anyone is having the same problem. I think my roosters are either too big to breed my hens or their spurs are doing my hens in. I have lost three over the last few months seem healthy but then cannot walk and then die either within a few hours or over...

Saw three nice size coyotes at 7:00 this morning while I was letting the dog out. Hmmm, guess going to have to fix me some bait since I see where they are traveling from. Had one pooped in the drive the other night so know they are too close, coming to my pear tree at night, keeping my dogs...

Had one this summer ate a plastic chicken egg and didn't know it until I had killed it and the egg fell out and I said I put him out of his misery because he wasn't going to make it with that egg.

The first time I heard one of mine try to crow I was in the barn and I said what was that and kept listening until I could hear where the weird sound was coming from and it dawned on my what it was and I still stop when they start crowing to be sure I am hearing right.

I only plan to work with the one line I have but I don't really want to kill the roosters either I also get attached, but do have a friend that wants to kill the three largest cockerels and I will let her, may be the one and only time she does this, will be a learning experience for her, and...

I sold some cockerels last year to a guy who did not have the Nelson line birds and he was going to cross them with the Reese birds and I did try to discourage him but it was like talking to a wall. So what do you do you just sell your extras and hush even though I had read enough on here from...

Saved the one by using Corid and I dosed the whole flock to be on the safe side and everybody seems to be ok except for the heat and I am putting frozen gallon jugs of water in their water buckets to keep it cool.

Understand where you are coming from, but don't we have to at least find a way to distinguish between all the lines so we don't have Nelson-Reese-Mohawk-JimmyJay-Dinahmoe etc etc, so just kinda sorta keeping it short helps get an idea what line is what even though you know the original breeder...

there doesn't seem to be many HRIR Nelson line birds around here, it all seems to be the other lines. I haven't noticed when mine lay but I have some young pullets that I put out in the flock and will watch and see if they lay early. I just happened upon the Nelson line so can't compare any...
