This will be the first time that I will be buying eggs. I want the following breeds and want them to be show quality.

Easter eggers
Olive eggers
Ameraucana
I live in Southern Ontario. All hatcheries I checked out online only carry a few standard breeds: Rhode Island Red, Leghorn, ... Like www.freyshatchery.com, pretty close to where I live.
I cannot find anywhere to get sexed day old chicks of breeds such as Silkies or Orpingtons or Easter eggers...
Hello,
I've been thumbing through my new Welp brochure and they mention breeding towards the Standard. This got me thinking: Is it possible to order from any of the national hatchery's and end up with chickens that are Show Quality?
Or is that a Dreamer's Fantasy?
Thank you!
Hello everyone!
We are looking to add a few more girls to our existing flock this year. In our LF coop, we will be pairing down to the following:

EE's
a Buff Orpington
a Speckled Sussex
an Olive Egger (that lays a brown egg)
Here's what we (ok, I) am considering...
Good Day,
I am going to purchase 5 silkies in 2019. I am deciding between Meyer Hatchery and Cackle Hatchery. I was hoping you could tell me about your experience working with either or both of the said hatcheries. It would be especially helpful if you could show pictures of your silkies...
I recently bought 10 chicks from TSC. Of course, coming from TSC they are not vaccinated. They are around 3 weeks old now. I just ordered 60 chicks from a hatchery and they will be arriving in the next week. I got the hatchery chicks vaccinated for Mareks but I am worried about the older TSC...
I got some extra chicks from privet, anyone know what they are? they are not bantams. I'm just being lazy I could easily look up what chicks they carry and google!

A few years ago my husband and i were watching PBS and caught the end segment of MAD CITY CHICKENS which is a realy enjoyable documentary about back yard chickens.
We HAD to purchase the CD so we could watch the whole thing.
Its informative and some parts are laugh out loud funny.
This is a...
I recently ordered 15 Speckled Sussex hens through Hoovers Hatchery online ordering service. I am happy to report that they all arrived alive and healthy. I am very pleased with the speedy delivery and they arrived in a well ventilated box with extra bedding for cushion. As for them all being...
Hi! So I’ve been considering ordering some call ducklings from als quackery in the near future and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience ordering for them and if it was good? I’ve ordered from Metzer several times and all my ducks from them arrived happy and healthy and still are to...
What hatcheries would you recommend for show quality Cornish cross? I know Hatcheries are somewhat of a gamble but tractor supply is my only other option. Some qualities I'm looking for are health on arrival, wide breast, long wide body, and good bone structure.
Thanks to all who comment. They...
I am expanding my backyard flock into a breeding program intending to sell chicks/ fertile eggs, etc. I am in the west Georgia area. What breeds do you guys think would sell well to get started?
We started the process of streamlining our care of the chickens last year. We enjoy breeding, and hatching, but the care of the breeds and keeping them all in separate coops was too time consuming. My husband and I both have full time jobs off the farm. I am a full time Emergency...
When I ordered my silkies from cackle hatchery, I searched the internet for HOURS trying to find pictures of silkies from there. I came across many articles saying don’t buy from a hatchery because the quality is horrible and the breeds are mixed. I was a nervous wreck thinking I made a huge...
I'm going to start off by saying that I don't have a lot of experience with show quality birds, most I've been around have been hatchery stock.
I was just wondering if there were less egg production in show birds, since they are bred for body shape, whereas hatcheries are obsessed with quantity...
Hey. I am looking at adding more silkies to my farm along with a few Easter eggers and olive eggers. Does anyone know of any online hatchery's that ship and offer different color silkies along with easter eggers? I have looked at a few but the shipping is always more than the total of my chick...
Info about the breed and our breeding program, prices, pics, and sites are down further.
The ayam cemani is a variety of chicken from Java, Indonesia. They are a variety of the breed Ayam Kedu. The town of Kedu, Java was an important spot for the Dutch trade routes which started in 1595. The...
Hello everyone,
The type has been sought after for decades by breeders, but just recently it has been created in the last decade or so. Now is your opportunity to have some of these beauties yourself. They are shipped at ten to fifteen days so they can better sustain the trip. I am having...
