➡ Quail Hatch Along🥚

Who, me? Mine just finished! (I think, I haven't pulled them yet).

Unfortunately I believe it's ended up the other way around when I did it! I only got red range babies. Extended red seems to mask it. You should try it though! There are genes that affect the expression of other genes in layers so you never know.
So similar to the Rosetta color? I could care less either way. I just think it’s fascinating!

I *think* different genes control the underlying color and whether it looks more solid or banded when you look at each feather. People use rosetta and red range interchangeably but I personally call the lacey pattern the former and solids the latter.

You can see a similar mechanism in my charcoals, I have some of each type.

I actually think what I have been calling my laced charcoals are what others are calling grau-fee? (Since long before I had them!). I never really noticed because the photo of them I'd seen was a little different looking, but this is spot on. I gotta take more pics of mine to compare.

And what I am calling charcoal I have seen both as charcoal and "dark silver".

We re-secured the run today and let the ssc babies out. then we moved the pearls to the outside hutch. I left the buttons inside but they weren’t happy!! I’m probably going to put them back with the pearls tomorrow and let them live semi-permanently in that hutch?? being separated for up to 24 hours shouldn’t cause any aggression issues should it??

This picture is what you call the lacey pattern?

I think the solid grey feathers are really pretty!
