Last quail still won't come out of the egg. I can see veining on the membrane. Dunno how this one was so much later than the others. The fluffy quail are good, very quiet in the brooder.
4 more chickens were finally out and ready so I moved them plus the first chicken (brown one) to their own brooder. They are very noisy compared to the quail. 3 more drying and at least 8 pips. All the eggs that hatched so far are from my parents flock, none from mine.

Have trouble with mine. Easier to congeal and skim for me. I usually make a mess. I have been practicing, but failed.
They worked good in the lab but a tad pricey for home use. The other problem is that home solutions tend to also have a fair amount of particulate matter that could plug them up.Have trouble with mine. Easier to congeal and skim for me. I usually make a mess. I have been practicing, but failed.
This falls into one of those "looks good on paper, but execution is lacking" items.
Separatory funnels work great, although I don't have one in my kitchen.![]()
but maybe I should. Hmm.
Wouldnāt a coffee filter in a funnel work great? Or will the fat go right through if itās hot? They worked good in the lab but a tad pricey for home use. The other problem is that home solutions tend to also have a fair amount of particulate matter that could plug them up.
The fat separator beakers work good for me because I am doing a quick fat removal from the broth. If you are more concerned about collecting the fat, you could use the beaker to remove most of the broth and then pour the remains into the vessel you use for congealing and skimming.
Hot fat should flow freely through a coffee filter.Wouldnāt a coffee filter in a funnel work great? Or will the fat go right through if itās hot?
Are you wanting some of each kind of coturnix quail?Well I couldnāt resist myshire auctions again yesterday......next batch of eggs is 30 sex-link. 22 seems to be my lucky # as thatās the bid that I win every auction with!!Still waiting for winner to be chosen in Grau fee drawing but Iām not too hopeful as there were over 75 entries before he closed it!
We just left to go kayak fishing at reelfoot lake and let youngest visit grandma for spring break. Left my other 2 boys to take care of everything at the house while weāre gone. About 5ish more hours on the road.....so feel free to entertain me!!![]()
Separate hatches. I originally set the chicken and turkey eggs at same time, but the turkeys are an extra 7 days. I added the coturnix and buttons to hatch with the chickens. Then added more coturnix to hatch with the turkeys. Yours got added 2 days later. I have 2 incubators, so hopefully each hatch time will have their own incubator. I moved the turkeys into the incubator with the second set of coturnix and your eggs when I locked down the chicken eggs. We shall see if I timed everything right. I'm hoping more of the chickens will be out when I get home from work. The chicken chicks are so cute! And I can't get over that little silver button. Is this a staggered hatch or are mine supposed to be joining them (that seems early....but I didn't keep track ..?).
Yes Iām building an assorted flock! Iāve been looking at the sex-link for a while now just so Iāll know from day 1 how many girls hatch! If my girls ever start laying, I may separate some fo my favorite colors for breedingAre you wanting some of each kind of coturnix quail?
