I raise them for meat and eggs, but I raise Jumbo Browns, with the exception of a silver male we rescued. The JBs are large and easy to sex.the Jumbo are best to eat right? As they have most meat? So you are breeding for eggs?
@Matieus27 if you are only breeding quail for meat why do you need sex-linked and why don't you breed Jumboes?
Tomorrow is BUNNY DAY! And quail too technically,
This is nice. It feels like finding the other bookend. I looked for a doe for a looooong time. And I'm actually picking up one for my boy's breeder too so I get to enjoy double the cuteness for a night.
If all goes well basically that pair alone will be subsidizing most of my operating costs next summer onwards (kits sell for $100-300 depending on how far into the the corners of CA you're willing to drive. I'll list 'em mostly in the bay area, heheheh).
The quail I'm grabbing are real nutty - I do think they are also pansy+pearl based on the stock the seller has. They're tricolor! They look like what they call pansy they have in the EU which is a different gene and super cool.
so of course i didn’t sleep well last night but the inspection is over!! the animal control officer that was out with the city code enforcement officer said he loved my aviary but basically the city wasted his time and ours by bringing him out here because my set-up was more than humane (no overcrowding and no mistreatment). they both commented on how beautiful all of my birds are. As for the ordinance, until someone gets it rewritten....it’s limit 8. if it is outside and has feathers or fur, it is livestock. However, they closed the case and am allowing us to use our discretion but if a new complaint comes up, I can only have 8 outside upon investigation. So my future with quail is going to have to be cage-kept in the shed.
