yes this would be perfect. but none of us know how to program that.
I have a brother and a father who codes.
My school has a very good, well regarded programming sector/group.
I can learn, and I could work with others.
There are people out there who could do this, we just need to figure out what we want.

That looks like more of what I was thinking except adding skin/shank/egg/etc color and smooth/frizzld/silkied. Also, feathered legs...

I like the simpler chicken calculators, but the simple ones are WAY too simple ( http://www.mechelsekoekoek.com/breedbook/?action=geneticscalculator ) and for me, the advanced ones are WAY too complicated ( http://kippenjungle.nl/kruising.html )
I think we could do the simple one, except with more options of smooth frizzle or feather legs on the side, or we could have breeds to pick colors from so you could do simple breed crosses.

Look at all the artists you brought together. And you are so creative, positive and good at collaborating. Maybe something else cool could come of it. A chicken identification app would be cool.
Yeah, was thinking we could just do basic pre-calculations and then add to them. So the user would say what would happen if I crossed a Light Sussex with a Barred Rock and then the calculator would show the results.

There are indeed people who can do this.. but I hope everyone understands how difficult this actually is to pull off. The illustrating is the easy part, though that’s still tedious by itself, and the genetic side of things does take experts. But I’ve coded some stuff (an excel self-sorting program for a business’s warehouse) and it SUCKS. I once spent an entire work day learning how to do the most seemingly simple sorting task across multiple spreadsheets that I thought would take 30 minutes. Just in case anyone is disillusioned.. one chicken breed would need several if,then lines and it’s confusing and all around not super fun (can you tell I don’t like coding).

I honestly think, unless you luck out and there’s a programming genius here on BYC who knows the jargon, that you would have to pay for this to be done properly to get anything worth the effort. Or you would have to take classes and invest hella time self-teaching and sorting through trial and error and wanting to smash your pc’s screen in. Sorry if that puts a damper on it, it’s just not a job for an amateur..

side by side, these are populating the same results though. having more details and even breed specific traits included in the generator, would be awesome. but I think we might just need somebody who can say what traits are dominant and recessive. I'm pretty sure that there are some that are both. White feathering maybe? I can't recall.

having the info that http://kippenjungle.nl/kruising.html shows, hidden in the background and have the genetics autofill when a specific breed is selected. maybe an advanced area where people can fill in what color pattern is where on their bird, what color egg their cross is laying... or something. using normal language in the selection area, but the actual genetics in the programming. ?????

White feathering is dominant on one locus, and recessive on one by itself. Remember, Kippenjungle let's you add extra genes at the bottom. To make it more visible you could add it to a box in the side.

I used to code in depth video games in 3D game python coding
I don’t mean any offense at all, I definitely have respect for people who can program a game from scratch (I also know quite a few and started to get into it years ago but lost interest).
But as far as I know python or even c++ coding is kinda a different animal than the sort of coding an excel program like this would require.. if excel is even the right way to go. I’m pretty it’d work but it would take someone who really really really knows the program, and someone with a lot of patience and free time.
