Cat Owners: What's your favorite Kitty Litter?

I can't think of the name, but it's the cheapest clumping litter that Kroger sells. It works great, and no odors as long as I scoop at least every other day. I should do it every day, but I forget sometimes...

And when I change out the whole box once a month or so, I always liberally sprinkle baking soda in the bottom of the pan.

Baking soda at the bottom, good idea!

Thanks for the great suggestions so far everyone!

you can buy a 50 lb bag of "start n gro regular" for about $18
its exactly the same as "World's Best" cat litter, which sells for about $14 for 8 lb - its a huge savings, and the odor control is awesome!! It even clumps enough to
scoop out the urine.

We have 5 indoor cats and I always chose the cheapest at Walmart. I saw an ad on TV for Fresh Step (you know you're cat can't find his own litter box etc. etc.), so tried it. By golly it worked! We have 3 litter boxes and being always busy don't change them every day (like Martha Stewart does!!!) - sometimes only every 2 weeks and there is NO SMELL in the house! (no I don't own stock in Fresh Step) haha.

Not sure of the name or availablity in other areas, but it's essentially a saw dust that clumps. Seems to cover all of the odor and controls the moisture. When I get down stairs I'll edit with the name.

Jim

The name is Feline Fresh.

I have tried everything out there and the only thing that keeps the smell down is the pine pellets for horses. It's not scoopable, but it's cheap and you can just dump the whole thing when they all expand out. Just keep stirring it up and removing the poo and it works fine.

I use the cheapest grower pellets I can find usually at the tractor supply. Turned all my friends on to it too. Vet uses it so does the shelter now too. Bio degrads and doesnt leach harmful chems into ground water. Love the fresh barn smell when it needs to be changed. No perfume smell in the house.

Hmmm. I think I'll try that. We use Tidy Cats usually. DD is responsible for changing/scooping litter and that takes a little arm twisting so it goes much longer than it should between scoopings.

Wanda - Start n Gro... what? Where? Is seedling soil product, or chick food, or...?

Re the newspaper pellets thinner layer... I put maybe 1" in the box. Just enough to move around and cover. Play with the amount 'til it works for ya. You could do this with any kind of litter you wanted, really. Cheap stuff would work alright as well... since you're not scooping, old school clay litter would work as well.

I cannot STAND the scents that most clumping litters use. I'd rather smell poop than perfumed poop, perfumed cats, perfumed air when they dig and cover. Bleh. And the bits of litter that get tracked all over the house, and in my bed... ICK!
