I couldn't look a bin of chicks and correctly identify about 1/4 of them. When people post photos of new chicks and ask what they are, I usually don't even try to join the conversation.![]()

For those who didn't see my post when I originally purchased the Brahmas, here they are. Again they all have feathered legs except the two blue looking ones. On another note I really appreciate the discussion, Farmer Connie my response wasn't intended to be hostile at all. I started the thread mainly to let others know that if they are buying from TSC they should be cautious and with all the tips and tricks shared throughout the thread so far maybe they can insure they are getting what they want.

Are the blue chicks actually blue? They look more black than blue to my old eyes.
They strongly resemble Black Australorp in my opinion.
Super handy!!Google -"Charts of breeds"
There are too many for me to keep screen shoting.

There are charts of just chicks, just adults and both side by side. Pages upon pages of them. My pix are blurry because I exploded the screen to the max to show them individually. They are much clearer not blown up large as the tablet screen.
OMG...Oleo Acres??? We have a very good friend here in Abilene, TX that has a big sign in their front yard that says "Oleo Acres, just a SMALL SPREAD".
I'm also new to chickens this year. I let my daughter pick out 6 chicks at TSC. The 2 Australorps pullets turn to 1 pullet and 1 roo. The leghorn, I think may be a golden comet or RIR, the 1 pullet that had no breed id was not a pullet. The RIR straight run is a RIR pullet, and I believe we have a little black bantam although they "didn't have any bantams" that day.
So out of 4 pullets and 2 straight runs, I got 2 roosters from the pullets (thank goodness the SRs were pullets) 2 with physical impairments. The unidentified roo had severely deformed legs and had to be put down. The bantam has less than half her feathers at 5 weeks. She is otherwise healthy and active so I see a sweater in her future.
So technically, TSC got 2/6 correct
I'll be adding in a few weeks and looking more at local farms and hatcheries.
It was something I saw decades ago, I liked it then, and I kept it. It's probably trademarked to the moon and back, but as long as I'm not making any money off it I figured it's harmless! "Oleo Acres, the Cheaper Spread."![]()
