My babies put themselves to bed in the coop last night. For the past week I ha e been going out once its good and dark and putting them into the coop one at a time. I went to put them in last night and they were already roosting! I am proud but kinda sad at the same time.

But... I am getting a new batch of babies tomorrow! As yall know I ended up with one pullet and five roos with this last batch so wish me luck!

First time chick owner : ) Have 2 Buff Orpingtons they are about 2 months. They are supposed to be girls but we'll see. Am enjoying them but its been a lot of work setting up for them to make sure they stay safe.

I originally had them set up in a barn stall but that became a nightmare when an aggressive snake was after them. Am now building a large chicken/run shed type structure and am also building a plastic shed thingy to attach to it. Like I said - lots of work for the initial set up... but want to make sure the girls are safe : )

Mine are also buff orpingtons. I set out with building a coop and run. It was a lotof work getting it finished but it is totally worth it. I sit on my deck and watch my buffs while I drink coffee every morning. Such a joy!

And at nine weeks I am still the mama! Something spooked them the other night so I went to investigate. I didn't find anything but four of the six flew up onto my chest and shoulders for protection.... it was quite touching.

If you can post pics of them we might be able to help with sexng them.... I knew at three weeks that I had roos!

This is the one I am thinking might be a roo.... I am hearing that lots of BO that look like roo's can still end up being hens, that some bo's gals just have large combs

Wow... that one is tough. I would say roo just because at eight weeks pullets should have almost no comb and it should still be pale. But my bo roos have much larger and redder combs and wattles.
