Hanshens, I had one like that, but I thought that was a poopy butt (first chicks, first one I saw), until it started to look red, then I stopped, it fell off after about 3-4 days, the others would occasionally pick at it, but she would peck right back.
Yesterday, my coop got a bit over heAted, over 90 F ambient, my chicks are just over a week old, I unplugged the heat light, as we are looking at some 30 degree Celsius days coming up, they seem happiest at 70-75F, always have, any warmer, and even at a day old they would avoid the light. So their skin was showing through very red, where they are getting their feathers in, and the bigger ones were panting last night. This morning they were still rather red looking, I thought it was a heat response, now I'm confused, it's most prominent on my big meaties, I was going to go visit DH camping tonight, but I'm thinking its going to need to be a day trip, as I'm a little worried about these guys and the heat, I'd like to get them outside tomorrow once it gets warm in the coop.
