Countdown to the first egg. Buckle up, it could be awhile....

Not feeling it today so I’ll be brief! No eggs- this is 8/16. Another Light Brahma named Big Momma
6CCA7CA6-DDAF-415D-8203-44AD3C95CE64.jpeg

She earned her name by being twice as big as all the other pullets (including Columbia and Magenta, her other LB sisters)
She’s even a little bigger than Roosterous

She really doesn’t let being gigantic slow her down, she with run with full exertion to anything that she thinks might possibly be food and can keep up with the swift little ones no problem

she’s a beautiful, friendly, fluffy bird that I imagine won’t be laying for quite some time.

sometimes she roosts on a lower roost than the rest, I think it’s easier to get up and down off lower posts for her.

it really is Big Mommas world around here!

Your flock is gorgeous! :love

You’re so sweet! Thank you!!! They are almost TOO pretty. Need them to get ruffled up a bit and lay some eggs!!! :barnie:lau
You've heard of a watched pot never boils? Well a watched chicken never lays. :gig

But seriously, I hope they lay soon, and when they do it will be well worth the wait! 🥚

It’s so hard! I have sand in the coop right now so I go out to scoop every day and I always go out with the highest of hopes! I’m like a dog with a car, I won’t know what to do with an egg once I actually find one! :celebrate

I love this idea. I’m in the same boat as you. I have a RIR and 2 NN turkens that are 20 weeks old... and still no eggs. I also have 3 sex links at 16 weeks old. I wonder who will lay first.
I truly had myself convinced my 3 sex links would be laying by now. They will all be 20 weeks Monday. No one is squatting. No one has a super red comb. At this point they are just teasing me.

Well, another disappointing day in the neighborhood. I’m pretty sure there is no chance of them laying before I finish the profiles, but I started it and feel compelled to finish.
profile 9/16 (over halfway there!)
my avatar, an EE pullet named Smidge.

^that’s her photobombing on the left!

Unlike her adorable EE sister Opal, Smidge has ample cheek feathers that just give her such a silly appearance. She really reminds me of a muppet or one of those puppets from the labyrinth with the neck feather things. You know which ones I mean...

Shes pretty petite, scared to death of me and is so flighty. She can even fly out of the uncovered portion of our run! Literally runs in fear when I get close like I’m going to snatch her up at any second.

she was a cute, chipmunk little chick

now she’s lean and beaky with a teeny pink comb that I need a magnifying glass to see.

I don’t really know how I’ll be able to tell which of the girls lay what egg, but I like to think hers will be stunners.
Until next time......
