No using the M word… I’ve been hiding from a heatwave with the chickens and goats in the forest and am getting eaten alive. I’m covered in welts and have been killing dozens of the buggers at night while they attack me. DH is bringing home some off spray, I don’t care what’s in it I would literally bathe in toxins at this point if it will keep them away!

I use the spray that I get for the horses, it works better than Off and it smells better hahaha!

Well we have a surprise. Was not expecting one this early but Chiquita has 1 chick out and partially dried off.

We are ok as of right now. Backwater from the river has one way out of my holler closed. If we get the rain forecasted tonight, we could have trouble. My area is affected the most when the backwater rises and a storm comes. I'm very worried about power outages, there is mudslides and tree's down. If I disappear for a few days it is most likely due to that.

Hoping Gucci got a bit more trimming so she can see better...and that you were right that a big part of her issue was feathers blocking her sight.

And Bella, beautiful Bella...I'm hoping you are eating reasonably well again, and that your crop on down is moving like it should. (Just think, if you get the system 'moving' like it should, it means you can 'deposit' a commemorative right on your mom as she feeds you...tell her it wasn't YOUR fault...she was the one forcing food in, which forced 'other stuff' out!)

Gucci did not get another trim and I was not able to observe her yesterday because of work. I likely won't see her much today either.

You know I had this very same discussion with my mother three times today. She’s not eating properly, at all now that she’s on the other side of the island and not getting one family meal daily. A slice of toast and two cups of tea isn’t “eating”, or a couple crackers and cheese.
Tax Tailless and psghetti water pot from my lunch and Arduinna’s “goat tea” treat. She doesn’t really want to drink the bottled water, but if it cooked her favorite meal… it’s yummy!View attachment 3203561

Yes, and at the time I still had an indoor goat and one elderly cat who had just discovered she could catch birds that fly inside and into the windows so getting him out was a little more important than it would be otherwise. I’ve slept in barns and not gotten a single bite before thanks to the bats and swallows… but didn’t want to risk a close encounter with a curious pet. That was while we were stranded from the flooding in November. For the record DH had no better ideas than me on bat removal… convo basically went (sleepy) “a WHAT??? What do you mean bird of the night” “you know, a rat with wings? (Calvin and Hobbes) a night bird. Sometimes turns into a creepy old guy with fangs or, hopefully, Brad Pitt? How do I get it to fly out of the trailer???” And his phones speaker was acting up so of course I was on speaker at about 11 pm…

Now that's a conversation Mrs BY Bob and I would have.

Old Timey Fun

I was watching an episode of Adam 12 yesterday and this happened.

Spoiler: Adam 12

This lady had been arguing with her husband Charlie and he had left her. The same day her rooster Charlie passed away. Her neighbor saw her burying the rooster in the backyard and thought she had buried her husband Charlie since he was no longer around.

This is why i continue to hold the line on house chickens.
