The hero of the hour taking an evening stroll in what is left of the long grass.

Let me introduce you all to the 2 newest flock members. We have a full silkie and silkie cross chick. Even being a cross and coming from a tiny egg it is still shocking how much bigger the cross chick is to it's sibling. In this video Chiquita is angry. I let her and the 2 chicks out of the coop for a few minutes and the cochin girls took that opportunity to run in and get to the chick feed. I had already broke up one fight between Chiquita and them because they just looked in her direction. I saved those 2 girls by shutting the door so she could not beat them up again. Before I could let Chiquita back in with the babies I had to go pack the cochins out of the coop to safety. No one besides Branch is allowed near her at the moment. This morning when I opened up the coop everyone left but Branch. He stayed beside the tote calling to Chiquita. I took her and the chicks out of the tote and he went and sat down beside them tidbitting. I have never had a better rooster with babies, in minutes both chicks were under him and he just sat there while she dustbathed.

Thanks for the update, from what you have said before I agree with your assessment and likely correct that Minnie is not to blame for her leg.

How is Bella’s mood? Is she okay after all the drama?
I have her back outside and managed by some trickery to have her fellow Hooligans out with her while the Roadrunners are inside the Chicken Palace. Sheer fluke I pulled that off.
She is sitting with her buddies. They persuaded her to peck at some cherries but her heart isn’t in it. She only eats corn it seems!

Good to know. Of course Penelope also lays whoppers also! But she is 7 and now only lays about once a week.

But she’s not above steeling eggs and sitting on them for an hour or so, I am actually surprised she hasn’t been broody, but she is happy to kick a hen off her egg and sit on it for herself for an hour, and move to the next nest where someone has laid an egg!
Lucy, one of my original ISA Browns, after she had stopped laying would have a little sit on an egg for about half an hour if she happened across one. :love

Smart girl 😊 I prefer corn to cherries also.

It’s great that you were able to do that awesome trickery and get her back outside with her friends.

Well I hope that you are ok! It looks like the kiddos are fine for now, but how are you? I hope you are not blaming yourself in any way, from what I am hearing from you is that you are doing an awesome job first with Bernadette and now with Bella. So please be gentle with yourself - you are doing such a good job!

I am fine. I just hate that Bella is so poorly and I am worried about her future.
Thank you for worrying about me!
