Went to Kathy's house yesterday and did some work. New circuit breaker in her main panel, rewired her dryer receptacle, cleaned out old cabling from past providers, and trimmed the trees in her front yard. I find it very rewarding to work alongside my daughter. She's smart and does her own repairs. Highlight of my day was dinner with both kids and my granddaughter. Anna was a little cranky in the pic below but I had her smiling later as we conspired to have her mom bring her to my house more often. Of course I promise to cook her favorite foods, playtime with the animals and fishing. View attachment 3207400
What a wonderful way to spend the day. :thumbsup

My big worry is the Silkies, I dont want them balded again, esp if they start molting.
That's a bit of a risk any time you have roos. Cuckoo has bare patches on her shoulders from Cheetah who is lighter (and smaller) than she is. She's a favorite. That's why Hector trying to catch her inside the coop in front of Cheetah was such a hormonal idiotic thing to do.

BTW, Twirp and Storm are still half jumping in his direction and he's bolting. Silver just heads toward him with a Professor McGonagall look/stride and he bolts. He is, however, allowed to roost on top of the nest boxes along side Silver and Pear, where Rusty used to roost, so there's hope there.

Awww grandpa's princess! Are you going to convert her into a chicken lady? I think she should have her own little flock to start with. Does she have an interest yet? Can your daughter have hens?

I don't know how you do it with multiple Roos! The ones I had here were drama !!

The other worry is more drama for the gals, I think one roo would be ok, drama wise.

So warning for a long post, including a lot of pictures to make it less tedious! And thank you again Bybob for hosting it.

Good bye to Vanille

She was our little alpha hen, sassy with us and a pain in the other hen's butt. We got her with our five other hens from a battery in January 2020, aged only three months as all others rescues had already been given out. Although she had trouble laying from the start she was a brave fighter, full of joy and will to live. She had many passions : drinking running water, eating snow and hail, escaping from the chicken zone to explore the garden, helping out my partner with whatever he was doing, perching on human shoulders, and most of all, eating cherries.

Because we had to care a lot for her due to her health issues she was our only hen that enjoyed cuddles, falling asleep on our knees or gently pecking our bellies.
We called her The Hen's Trade union because she knew how to ask loudly for whatever she wanted until she got it.

She was 33 months and I know she enjoyed her life here very much.

I have very few picture as a pullet. Here she is climbing the ladder.
