If you remember back when the freeze destroyed all of the blossoms on my magnolia tree......

Sometimes if it gets wet enough for a period of time in late summer it will blossom again. It has been raining here pretty regular for over a week now.

Blossoms are popping out all over the tree. 🥰

Pullets Take Flight

@Shadrach would like this one. We were over my friend JD's for dinner the other night and I was enjoying watching his three new pullets frolicking in the yard. They were chasing each other and just having all kinds of playful fun as we are on the deck enjoying our meal and socializing.

As the sun set, the three gathered on this chair set. I thought they might be planning to roost there.

Well maybe 2 of them did. The lighter colored one had other ideas. She kept sizing up a tree which was over them. I swear it was at least an 8 foot flight to get to the lowest branch.

Did I mention these pullets are very lean with leghorn like wing to body ratios.

Up she went. Then she started climbing higher.

Her two friends were not amused and yelled for her to come back down.

She did not. So they went into the coop without her. This caused her quite a bit of stress especially after getting so high in the tree.

Eventually she bit the bullet and flew down. It was not a glorious landing but she survived and joined her friends in the coop.

There was a lot of conversation among the humans as to how we would get her down. Thankfully peer pressure took care of it for us.

This sounds like good fun for this weekend. :thumbsup
Alternatively, take a large glass jar and a small glass jar to an empty field/overgrown lot. Use the small jar to catch the hoppers, the large to store quantity. Catch a large jar full and bring home to all the girls.

Edit: keep a rock on the lid of the large when not putting hoppers in it. Whatever rock you start with, go bigger. It's amazing howmuch they can move with a well placed jump.

I remember those days as a wee lad. Catching bugs. With my luck the grasshoppers would take up residence in my garden where the ladies can't reach them.

Well, lets head out to get Rosie's stitches or staples removed. I also find out if she needs physical therapy. I honestly think she will but she does not. She also learned her lesson, first thing she did when she got up was eat a few bites and drank a huge glass of juice. No more sneaking surgeries on her apparently.
Best of luck today. And stay dry.
