Today is the St Johns Regatta In Newfoundland, it is a holiday and it’s dependent on the weather.

So yesterday was slated for the Regatta but because. It was bad weather they didn’t hold any of the activities which include long boat races (rowing) and other nautical activities.

When a good weather day occurs this week all the businesses close and everyone goes to the regatta Today is that day! Wish i could be there….

Please excuse my ignorant question. I see you talk about Newfoundland all the time. Is it a real place or is it just jokes? (because I see you joke about newfoundlander all the time)

Thank you. So far we've been really blessed in our 1y5m chicken keeping journey. It is all love and cuddliness from them. I hope they (the four that lay too often) can get at least 4 years of good chicken life.

Oh dear - poor Gucci - I must say you did an admirable job at not interfering before the end. Your fingers must have been itching while she wandered around peeping!

RC, she peeps quite sweetly by the way! Gucci is so cute!

I just want to warn you that I sense I am about to descend into doom, gloom, frustration and sadness and I will need all your help to pick myself up.
First Bella.
Now there is a lash egg in a nest box. It was small and half buried so although I think it was 'laid' there yesterday I cannot be sure I didn't miss it the day before. I have cameras but no definitive proof of who laid it. From the footage it seems like Maggie is the most likely suspect, but it is not certain. She has laid lash eggs before (almost 2 years ago) and does use that box. And she did go into it for a while yesterday. On the other hand she seems fine and perky as normal. Diana who hasn't put a shell on an egg in months and is a high production breed seems a more likely candidate but she definitely has not been in that nest box in quite a while.
Dotty is poorly. She is sitting a lot and with tail down. She has been the only one laying and now hasn't in a few days (but it has been hot). I have had a look at her - externally only - and I don't feel an egg from the outside. I don't see her pumping her tail. I have given her calcium anyway just in case and if she doesn't perk up I will give her an internal exam as well. Could she have laid the lash egg? It isn't her usual nest box, but things have been a bit topsy turvey on that front so maybe.
Oh, and I have mice and cannot figure how they are getting in.
So, anxiety peaks again. Should I give antibiotics because of the lash egg? Should I assume it is Maggie as the only evidence I have points to her? Or Dotty who is the only one sick?
UGH - why are chickens so damn difficult to keep healthy?

Oh dear RC. This is not fair to you. I hope it is Maggie and it is just another random lash egg from her. (I know there is nothing random about lash eggs, but maybe for Maggie it is?!]

I think I'd wait a bit to try to find out who laid it, but hopefully no more and this is just a scare.

Did you also check Minnie and Maggie's abdomens and vents (at least visually) ?

I haven't. Good thinking. Everyone will get the once-over!

So Alex, you think it isn't really broken and the first vet didn't know what s/he was talking about?
I worry that if it is broken and you cannot bind it that she will be in pain, and if it sets it will set in the wrong position.

I have a full bottle of baby aspirin, and I’m not going anywhere else at the moment. My little Dakota needs me, and I need her.

Hattie has been spending most of her time in the rehabbed prefab.

She has moved with the tribe a little finding this place to escape the sun.

You can see how her molt is progressing in this photo. Poor girl.
