Chicken Math Victim
The new much larger impromptu brooder. My wallet is lighter but they seem happier. I really hope this stops them from picking at each other. First time uploading a video so hopefully it worked.

Oh she is most definitely falling down sleeping.I worked with horses for years both personally and professionally and never have I seen this. I have watched and rewatched the part where she falls. What I think I am seeing is her throwing herself down. I dont see a fall per say. Her front feet come off the ground first. Almost as if she throwing herself on the ground so she can lay down. Could it be that she cant fold her rear legs to lay down and this is her solution? Can you check each leg for flexibility? If its her hips it could be impossible to test without a sling. I would definitely call New Bolton Center and see if they can do a video consult. If anyone would know they would!
I don’t think that surgery, would be able to separate those two!!I have lain awake at night thinking of this exact thing, also a couch or raised bed of some sort, she can recline on… or a padded crush to wedge her up in…. Hahaha. All sorts of contraptions!
They do have slings that are used for fractures etc. and if I could get one built in there I would.
I am leaning towards a narrow stall with a sling under her belly, behind her butt and a ledge to rest her head on. I think she would be ok and not panic….

I am asking because my Wendy (my HUGE RIR) went to the nesting box for long hours with nothing, in two consecutive days, say Day 1 and Day 2. on Day 3 morning she ejected a weird diarrhea that almost looks like cooked eggHard to tell - almost all her waking hours today were spent sitting in the nest box.
When she came out she did eat a bit - but not ravenously. She also drank a bit before going to bed.
I am sorry to hear about Wendy - I hope she gets over that.I am asking because my Wendy (my HUGE RIR) went to the nesting box for long hours with nothing, in two consecutive days, say Day 1 and Day 2. on Day 3 morning she ejected a weird diarrhea that almost looks like cooked egg. I took a picture but will spare you the grossness. 20 seconds later, half of the diarrhea was gone making me wonder if it's an egg.
Day 4 nothing. Day 5 (today) nothing. I am worried about her because traditionally she lays huge eggs with thin shell. However, this whole week she is as lively as usual. In any case, we still gave her a warm epsom salt bath this afternoon. She would not stay in the bath though and was acting awkward in the house. She then had three nasty diarrhea in the house, one on a towel drying her up...
Anyway, maybe everything is OK as long as Lulu eats and drinks, even she doesn't lay one tomorrow? She is really too young to have reproductive issues already. Could it be that her body is taking a mini-break, but she got used to lay almost daily so she went trying, as she is still getting the hang of it?
Oh my I am so sorry. My love for horses runs deep. It hard to watch them decline. My heart goes out to you and to her. At her age you are doing the best anyone could by keeping her as safe and comfortable as you can.Oh she is most definitely falling down sleeping.
I have watched her, she will be standing there half asleep and her knees buckle and she half falls down but catches herself.
One night she fell over and crashed through the stall wall into the stall next door. Poor Sally had the wits scared out of her! I had that on video also…
I wonder if she has something going in her abdomen, she looks at her abdomen when she lays down - she has the usual grey horse lumps so it a good bet she has something going on. At 20 though not much I will do about it, just keeep her as safe as I can, I might put her back on some anti inflammatory meds and pain meds.
Well I am running out of tax - good thing it’s still Pony Sunday hahaha

It's OK. We can't be that upset since she has great appetite, acting normal except she hasn't jumped on my husband's lap. (me being sensitive suspecting sitting on laps is uncomfortable with eggs in tummy...) I tried to feel an egg but I don't think there is one.I am sorry to hear about Wendy - I hope she gets over that.
I have been reading up about chickens who get egg bound and apparently although it is in fact rare it happens particularly with new layers and the old ladies.
I really hope Lulu is just having a day off laying and didn't figure that out!
She is roosted with the gang but is keeping herself a bit separate. Bernadette moved into Lulu's usual spot by stepping over her.
Beautiful. I do love pony Sunday!Pony Sunday
I am again hiding in the barn today, my mum keeps going off on a tangent stating she has a head cold and what do people know anyways, blah blah blah. Oh course I had to throw my opinion in and told her it was likely Covid as that was the majority of respiratory virus going around right now…. Bad Kelly!!! Got yelled at and told off, so I beat a hasty retreat to the barn hahaha.
I need a fridge, kettle and microwave out here and I could just stay out here!
Playing with my chickies and ponies, enjoying the Barn Swallows and no one yelling at me
I took these photos yesterday of the gals just hanging out in the shade
