I don't know if it will make you feel better, but I'm absolutely certain this woman will remember forever that you were with her to bury her little dog and share her sorrow in that terrible moment.

And I agree with Marie, having faith and being active in a religious community is a way to help you not being alone facing death. Both spiritually and in real day to day life.
I say this as an atheist, but I've seen how being active in a church helped my grandma in the ten last years she spent on her own. I'm sure you will find help there when you'll really need it- you just have to find it in you to ask !

Spot on. I'm an atheist to now but was once very religious. I guess life made me see things differently but I respect the people that believe and absolutely understand where they are coming from
