I can't answer that. I don't do that.Maybe that’s what she meant... just her legs...
But I did want to ask.. why do yall refer to a broody hen as “sick”..?
I wind up doing Corrid every year. I'm pretty good at dosing. I like doing a two week treatment. We try not eat the eggs week one while they are on the high dose. I bet we start up eating them again this weekend once they go on low dose but don't tell anyone. You can eat eggs after you have given your hens Corid. It is a Vitamin K blocker, you could take it directly, although I don't advise that unless you have coccidiosis.Depriving the Coccidiosis of Vitamin K causes them to die naturally. There are other things that can cause the runny poo, so if the Corid doesn't work, do start a post in the ER forum. Do you know the correct dosage? I know Casportpony is the resident authority on it.
ETA: You need to redose them with Corid in a week to kill the coccidiosis that hatches. The Corid doesn't kill the eggs or larvae, or whatever they start as.![]()
That sounds terrifying Who Dat. Thank goodness Nilky was ok.Oh ma ga, yall! I woke up and to an almost nightmare! I was in the kitchen making breakfast and I look out and see Nilky walking around their yard!!! I froze!!! I know I put them up but the days can run together so perhaps I forgot a day!!!?? So I take the eggs off the stove and run out praying that I do not find a massacre in the coop!! As I approach the run/coop I do not see anyone walking around and am terrified as they should be out and about by now as it’s been daylight for at least 20 minutes! Then I see that the door is locked and the gals start pouring out of the coop....
(my coop is open to the run but not the yard).... apparently Nilky got locked out last night!! So all was safe and she managed to stay alive
..... I cannot begin to explain the feeling of terror to think that I could’ve possibly killed all my chickens!! I literally was shaking in the knees!! And still shaken up for a good 10 minutes afterwards!! This evening there will be double checks all around!!!!
Oh... I thought that you did... when I was asking about putting my broody in water. Maybe you didn’t say sick but I know that some of you did who answered that post.. and I thought that was odd to refer to a broody as sick...I can't answer that. I don't do that.
This is the first year I had to deal with it, due to the extraordinary amount of rain and rain puddles. We never stopped eating the eggs. We never got sick. And on a really positive note, we don't have coccidiosis.I wind up doing Corrid every year. I'm pretty good at dosing. I like doing a two week treatment. We try not eat the eggs week one while they are on the high dose. I bet we start up eating them again this weekend once they go on low dose but don't tell anyone.
Casportpony is the one who taught me how to deal with this situation. The good news is that 80% of all poos are normal. No one is losing weight, no one is lethargic. It's not an urgent situation. It seems I go through this every spring.![]()
Be careful because shocking a hen that is not well can have tragic results. If you question their health at all, I would not do it. I would use broody jail.
Thank youThat sounds terrifying Who Dat. Thank goodness Nilky was ok.
Sounds like you might need to sit outside with them and a cup of tea for a bit to settle your nerves![]()

The look on that Polish face!Wet Hens, Again!
It was such a cold rainy day that everybody spent most of the day inside the run complex. In the end though they had to free range and got soaked again.
I felt so bad I invited them in the house for a snack to dry off.
Corrid Eggs
Not Covid eggs.
Their poos did clear all the way up after worming and I was seeing some nasty stuff so I put the flock on Corrid last weekend. Since I can't get anything tested, I'm guessing a little here. I hope this works.
So that leaves me with Corrid eggs. Nothing to do but feed them back to them. How about a nice dose of hot scrambled eggs before bedtime after a day in the cold rain?
