Oh look! LF has multi-colored fluff to match the spangles on her back!
❤️❤️
She is so very pretty. Truly a tribute to British royalty.

The yellow jackets are still alive and thriving. I don't have a next level of weaponry other than burning down the house.
:th

I will have to tell guests not to use the door into the kitchen but to go around the other side. I haven't been out to see if the deck nest is silent but if not I will need to figure a plan B for that too.
I still have 24 hours so I can try dusting again in daylight. Maybe these are different wasps, maybe they just showed up for the funerals of the ones I killed overnight. Doubt it, they look very much at home.
Is there no way way to get them with a spray. Most hardware stores carry hornet spray that will reach 20 feet or more. I use these for spraying nests that I can't or don't want to get close to.

I second this. The underground yellow jackets we had to get specific foaming stuff that goes down into the tunnels. All other suggestions online failed, dry ice, bleach, gasoline… they survived all of those some died but not nearly enough. They are survivors. I just wish an eviction notice would suffice!

The tempering process on the wood stove is going on too. Not sure how high it's gone (the stove surface temp, currently cooling down to 100F), but it's currently 39F outside. This is wonderful for the wildfire sites (colder temps really help put them OUT). The stove circulation fan is quiet and I feel like a giddy kid (it's christmas!) :wee
:wee :wee (it's dropped a couple more degrees outside, may go down a couple more before sunrise):wee
I love that last picture - I think it is calendar or POW worthy as well :):love:love

It's an absolutely perfect preening shot, and a very ?balanced? picture (asthetically to me anyways - but I'm the nerdy mathematician, not the creative artsy type, so what do I know:idunno)

So glad to hear good progress on the stove....and sounds like you need Christmas now - if it is already getting down to 30s. Sounds like your first frost isn't far away! We are still in the 50s at night so far (knock on wood!)

That was the first thing I used. Got it at Home Depot. 20’ spray. But both are in awkward places to reach.

Okay, so I'm no additional help on the erradication of yellow jacket issues, so how about a mental distraction for a moment??

How is your adorable 'Housey-Mousey' doings? S/He was soooo adorable in that picture. And s/he risks his/her life everyday living with the mouse eating princesses!

Hope all goes well at your shindig tomorrow!

Annoying wildlife tax:

I thought I would go with boy bottoms for today:

And, a gratuitous pic of the Exchequer leghorn boy that I rehomed....just for @BY Bob

Christmas was getting the stove all put together (chimney included) so we can use it! Christmas is usually 15-25F, with exceptions in all directions for odd weather. The preening pic was a fun one to capture. I'll see about adding it to POW. This morning, no one wanted to get up. The mad rush out of the coop didn't happen. Storm, then Kren, then Nellie, Cheetah, Horus, and Blanche were about it. More will eventually follow, but they're taking their time today.
