Can you remind me how old they are now ? Unlike @Ponypoor I'm not good with numbers !

I've been holding this quote in limbo for some time. Sorry.

They are now 18 weeks old.

Remember @BY Bob posting how Hattie 'retired' to the smaller coop for a couple weeks early in her moulting? Then, she rejoined the group - even though she wasn't finished, she appeared to me to be beyond that 'don't touch me' stage of feather growth.

Yes. Mine usually separate themselves from the others. The main indication Betty was molting was not even feathers on the ground but rather her withdrawing from everyone else. Then I noticed feathers coming in. She is molting very slowly.

A really rare occurrence and on Friday too! Here is Bernadette’s almost noticeably fluffy butt.

Also, perhaps understandably I am a bit hyper vigilant about Bernie’s feet. Do you think I should worry about those patches of grey you can see? It isn’t dirt and it doesn’t look swollen. More like her skin and scales are a different color.
WDYT?

I'm not certain what to say about the grey. I do see occasional patches like that in Hattie's grey legs but on her they are white. They have never given her trouble.

Well, even if I know nothing about breeds however beautiful these are they are not Marans 😉. Ok, I learned that standards are different in different countries ...but it's something I don't get, for me it's like if you made a cheese with pasteurized milk in the states and called it camembert 😂.

Local food : my partner is having lunch in Nice today as it's his workday and he sent me this 😋

Some butts for Friday. No real fluff as most were either dust or sunbathing. And with the molting it gets harder to come close to them, I don't know if your chickens also act shy/ unfriendly when they molt ?

Big legs, high butt, no fluff!

You are right, White Tail Buffs are not according to the French standard true Marans. I think the French only recognize 3 or 4 color varieties and seeing as how they were developed in France one should refer to their standard. That being said, I do not want them for show, they are a new developing variety. Sadly not yet available only to a few in Australia. But, new color varieties and breeds are being developed everywhere, and one day years from now they could be recognized. More importantly, to me anyway, they look like what would be the ideal cross between my BCM boys and Butter or my other Buff orp girls. Which you may not know, I've been tinkering with and want for 2 years now. So while yes, not true Marans, it is a color variety that very much interests me and one I want very badly.

So all my Aussie friends, besides drop bears, does everything really want to kill you in the land down under?

Any chance you could post a photo of them?
