Did a lot this morning. Went to downtown Newton on the way fron the post office and they had lil vendors and the streets blocked so we stopped. I bought my hubby a really cool skull for 20 bucks.
Also, went to Lowes and got mulch for the run instead of straw that keeps disappearing. The mulch will last longer. We also ate brunch a BLT and I had coffee. Was a nice morning with the hubby. Remember to spend time with your loved ones. Put 4 of my EE up on Craigslist for sale. and getting ready to move the younger chicks into the coop today.

I am rethinking not handling Mr P more. If I need to handle him I need him to be compliant and not kick up a fuss. Going to start desensitizing him today. He needs to learn I am not going to hurt him.
This is why I'm working hard on taming Twiggy. He is stubborn and does not like to be caught. Although when caught he melts. Once he stops running from me and lets me pick him up without a fuss I'll be happy. I'm glad the crows did their job and the hawk did not go after your chickens.

According to mom and grandma Bunny and Raven have been sitting for 2 weeks today. I'm happy to report that letting Raven adopt a chick this summer after only setting for a week did not ruin her. I was really afraid she would abandon her eggs after 8 or 9 days and no chicks hatched. I will officially go on chick watch Thursday incase of any early hatchers.

And how is the sneaky one below them?

For a first time broody she is doing really well. The first time she came off her eggs she did get back on the wrong nest. I caught that right away and removed her and showed her her eggs and she went right back to them. After that she now comes off every 2 days and knows which eggs are hers. She is I think about 4 or 5 days behind Bunny and Raven.

The rebar did 2 things...slide through eye bolts of both panels to hold them together, and helped to stabilize...particularly kept the roof in place when I put it on after the sides were up. These are terrible sketches, but this is what it looked like... (note, everything folded up so it was 5.5' long, 3' high, and 6 2X3's wide...great for storing) I've thought about making a bigger one,and putting it on a frame - same dimensions as pen will be) Using someting like this along the sides, and this at the corners with a pin with cotter pin to hold in place. Make moving it around easier, as base frame would have wheels, but sides/top would fold up, and when removed from base, base would be fairly flat (maybe 8" deep,at most, depth of tires) Since I would only use in warmer months (not winter) 2X2 or 2X3 will be enough for framing of pen panels, but I would use 2X4 for base it would rest on for pulling/moving.

But, alas, that isn't to be right now, as I need to build another coop before winter!

Ooops, EDITED to add terrible sketches!View attachment 3284626View attachment 3284627
Note, I decided on those dimensions as I made it out of 8' length wood (2.5 + 5.5 = 8'), and 8X8 would have been too big for what I wanted at the time.)
Totally clear now, thank you! And no, the drawings are not terrible, I understand them perfectly!

And Twiggy! :old :love

Good news, and good news. Insurance is going to upgrade the family house in hurricane stricken Florida. He’s headed Tuesday morning. Pretty much all new appliances, flooring, walls, roof, upgrades to everything. (Why can’t I get a hurricane!) I can’t even get rain!
#2 good thing, Jaffar is inside with us being very calm and loving. He’s not being a butt anymore. :clap
