That said, her weight may have been abnormally high in August (inflammation, retaining fluid, etc, etc, etc...) and she may be somewhere around her normal now???? I know you don't want to handle her, but I would gently feel her breast. Any movement on her by your hand should move in the direction of feather growth. (i.e. like on back, stoke from head to tail.) I know you will be very gentle....I would be nervous about the weight loss and would need to feel her breast/breast bone for confirmation of either 'okay' or 'needs more food'


But, that is me, and I tend to be a bit impatient and need to 'know now'....You are a bit more contemplative than I...so please don't take my need as a directive for your action.

Sorry yes - I was befuddled. Yes, 17.5% loss from August if you think of August as 'normal'.
Her chest is like a porcupine right now so really hard to feel her breast bone but I might try again tomorrow. When I picked her up today she didn't feel like skin and bones, it felt like there was some substance to her.
I will try tempting her to eat something yummy in the morning - she was interested in the beef and in meal worms today - but she just eats a little and then wanders off. I am trying to maximize forage time in case she is able to find things she likes - but again she isn't that energetic about it (though I have some evidence she ate a butterfly today which is a bit sad!).

Not normal though were Greg is I think. But I don’t think that the bad weather lasts very long, if they do get it. (What’s with the crazy weather lately?).

I still think you should move there out of the way of the nasty neighbors. Hard to suffer too much from neighbors on nearly 15 acres. Maybe in time you will get another horse to make use of the barns. Or maybe an emu.
You could rename the barns in Chaco’s honor.
