My grandpa has recently taken in a stray pup. When he was up yesterday he mentioned he and his wife had attempted to make her a insulated dog box with 2 totes and she hated it. Told me he was going to have to throw them away because they had cut out a hole in the totes. No, no, no, bring them to me. How could he toss these, they are perfect houses for my broody mommas.

Raven and her chicks are already snuggled in their house. I already had a old orange one I had done a similar opening too that Bunny and babies are using. This last one tomorrow i will find a spot and it will be home to Blueberry and her chicks.

Chickens can lead you down a dangerous path. As I was out there smiling smugly to myself watching Raven and her chicks settle into their new box it dawned on me. Technically the 2 totes are garbage, most would throw them away and here I was saving and using them. Good lord I could turn into my grandma with her hoarding tendencies if it involves chickens.

Yup have noticed that trend myself here hahaha!

Blueberry has had the best hatch rate out of all the girls. Her 7th chick just hatched. I'm leaving her final egg with her until the morning. I hear nothing inside it, but from candling if it passed it passed in the last day or so. Assuming the last egg is a dud between 3 girls this past week they have hatched out 17 chicks with only 1 to pass leaving 16. Between all 3 I set 24 eggs. I do not think that is a bad percentage this late in the year at all.

I go out walking after midnight, out in the moonlight..... dee dumde dum dedum dede...

My next brood of chicks are gonna be Patsy, Loretta, Dolly, etc :love

And Joan Jett just to make it interesting hahahaha!
I was going to name mine that way, but they just didn’t seem to fit them very well. So I only ended up with a Crystal (Gayle) and a Dottie (West).

On another topic:

Oh Crap!
I think Coco (who is barely 6 months old) is seriously thinking about being broody. She has been getting more vocal in the nest box the past few days and staying pretty long, was a screeching pancake most of the day today, and really ruffled at me when I took eggs out from under her. She did finally leave the nest box tonight but when I did a final egg check for the day there were about a dozen fluffy feathers that might have come from her chest. 🤦🏻‍♀️

And a few Monday Mugs (some of these are a few months old)
