You quit before your vacation?
Ummm. Why?!
:th

First off I have to say I was stupid to do so… but it is what it is.

Part 1

This was only ever supposed to be an interim job during Covid to pay some bills, as the Pipeline/Energy sector was in a holding pattern not hiring.

I started were I am beginning of last December, I was gobsmacked at how disorganized things were, and when the HR director told me to change and make things better I figured ok I will see what can be done.

Now that was told to me in the interview, when I started there I was shocked at the disarray. Their digital filing was so disorganized, they didn’t have any document control, files were hard to find all over the place. I made some suggestions but they were shot down. I shrugged and figured I would just keep my files better organized.

I was supposed to be hired as an Executive Admin but when I started to told me I would be doing Travel Coordinator instead, hey whatever work is work. And report to the HR for, not the CEO.

Anywhoooo as I said it was in disarray, so I started getting a better spreadsheet put together and I was shocked that the shuttles, rentals and flights were not tracked, so started tracking those. Hotels were horridly tracked, no real useful info...

A credit card was used to pay things and it was CONSTANTLY BEING OVER EXTENDED! I had to make apologies to so may hotels etc for things not being paid due to the credit card being over drawn… don’t get me started - I went and moved as many of the expenses to a Direct Bill charge system to help with the credit card system (shouldn’t really be my job to do this). How embarrassing for me when I trying to make business connections - geeze!

They tried to dump all sort of crap on me but most I pushed back as I was so swamped. But they managed to sucker me into tracking the company fleet vehicles and paytoll-road transponders - that alone was a nightmare as the guys just passed keys and transponders around with out letting me know. How is a person to track something when you don't know where it is?

To be continued....

Now you hire a lawyer and sue for hostile workplace environment. Blacken their name. Name the HR manager personally.

It's time for revenge.

Part 2

Enter new HR director who started badgering and harassing me about the spreadsheet needing to be kept up to date (dumb ass woman the thing is updated), this was a constant running thing. It got to the point where I was not wanting to see her and would get so anxious with her berating and badgering me about the thing being up to date. She became fixated on the Fleet Vehicles and transponders. I kept telling her if she wanted to know where they were see Project Manager X. His team had them all in Toronto on a project.

Then there was the vacation thing, I tried to take vacation 4 times this past summer and each time she told me I couldnt as my co-worker was too busy with recruitment (did I mention the high turnover there - at least 1 person a week would leave).

Meanwhile my coworker went to Portugal in the spring and the Spain in the summer. OH and the new HR direct took 3 weeks vacation already and she only started in May! Guess I am too important to take vacation.

Doesn’t get me started about working from home ( I can’t but coworker and hr director can). Then she had the audacity to tell me that there were 'complaints about travel'. When I asked her from whom where those complaints coming because the PMO Director just finished telling me I was the best Travel Coordinator he worked with. She wouldn't tell me.

Oh and she was good at brown-nosing to the other Directors - if there is one thing I cannot stand is a person who sucks up to others. And she would give me sideways slap in the face by telling one in particular (he had control of the Fleet Vehicles I guess) that she would ensure I kept the sheet up to date. Even he told her I was not to police the spreadsheet - just enter who has them. The Proj Managers are supposed to check that particular sheet and ensure stuff is sent back to me. But HR Dir kept badgering me about it.

So instead of supporting ME she would suck up to the directors and make it seem that I was at fault for everything. Not once did she ever say good job, things are great, thanks for doing that etc.... Now the guys travelling were great with the compliments - it got so that I told them 'don't tell me - tell my boss - she thinks I do a terrible job!' Bet they never did.

I wanted to work from home, as I had some deliveries, she told me I had to get that stuff done in my off time. I told her those business only work 9-5 mon to fri. So sad too bad was her response. Guess what she did the next week? YES ! got the email stating she was working from home as she had to have some personal stuff done. Coworker same thing - would be working from home constantly! OMG (I am seeing red again just remembering this).

When I was ill with Covid she berated me for not emailing her daily with when I would be back to work. I told her well I was to busy barfing in a bucket - why didn't you PICK UP THE PHONE AND CALL THE HOUSE TO SEE IF I WAS OK? Then when my '5 days of being sick' were up she made me come back to the office. I did and I coughed up a lung for 2 weeks :) I gave it to everyone around me :) Good Kelly !

Oh and then she would come by my desk and berate me for not wearing a mask - I was having a cuppa tea I told her, next time I will cut a hole in the mask and use a straw to slurp up my tea. And during my lunch she did that too. I finally got mad and said ' I am having my lunch ok? is that alright with you? I am the only one in this office that was still wearing a mask and I still got sick - so can I eat in peace?' She left.

Oh Oh and when coworker came back from Spain, on the Monday she emailed saying she had covid - she worked from home that whole week (convenient to have her 5 covid sick days!). When she returned to work did she wear her mask for the required 10 days??? NO! Did HR Dir harass her? NO!

I tried to take 1 vacation day so my Uncle could help me with some stuff but she wouldn't let me. So I waited a couple weeks then called in sick :)

“Kelly, you should have called me. I may be small, but I have a big painful bite. And I can smell out a lousy business associate from miles away!”
“Before daddy took me from that awful home to where I live now, they called me (The Butcher)!” EF5DBADB-E8D6-4CA0-90C3-B7D7B0CAA52C.jpeg

I thought everyone in Canada had free Healthcare? I'm confused.
Healthcare NOT meds. Oh I can see any Dr I want - walk in any hospital, clinic (as long as you don't have covid - don't get me started on Covid...). Break an arm, go to any emerg, got the sniffles, go to any clinic, popping out a baby? your choice (unless youre in a remote community then it gets sticky!) were you want to have it.

Need an MRI - sure, Need x-ray - good to go, bloodwork, sonograms, etc - all covered.

But NOT meds. Over 65 there is a $100 deductible and after that almost all meds are covered (unless its experimental meds for treatments - but those are generally also covered).

There is talk of covering meds for those 25 and under, and it will likely get passed in the House.

Having said that there is a serious lack of Doctors here, they are all retiring and the new ones only want to practice in big Urban Centres. Rural practice is hard and they want to raise families where the kids can hop on a bus or walk to the malls hahahaha :)

Oh my Dr will prescribe my meds for me, I have a neurological issue and those meds are gold standard for the treatment. Not to mention pain relief for my arthritis. BUT Tramacet (Tramadol) is a Sched IV med and she only prescribes monthly for me, they are very strict here about narcotic meds, so the last time I got my script filled was early Sept, should have filled it before now silly me. And it is very expensive - and the drug plan covered about 80% of the cost. I can take a cheaper med which is a 1/3 the cost (codeine) but as I am trying to get onto a pipeline job and they do drug testing for those jobs I can't take that (also it really bothers my gut so I hate taking it - but it is hands down far superior than the tramacet for my leg spasms).

So I just suffer right now. I did ask the pharmacy on Friday to renew it before the kerfuffle happened... but the Dr didn't get back to him with the refill. Oh well!
