Having to sit by and watch a momma wean off her chicks can be heart wrenching. Chiquita is almost done separating herself from her chicks. They no longer hang onto her hip during the day, just occasionally dust bathing or napping with her. Nights have been a different story with them both still trying to snuggle under her. The past 2 nights Goose decided she no longer needed her momma and got up on the roost in between the orp girls. Hoppy is a different story and still is super attached to his momma. Chiquita wants to get on the roost herself, but he cries pitifully until she comes down to sleep with him. Tonight when she joined him he tried to get as close as possible. She pecked him until he moved a short distance away. As bad as it sounds I wish she would just cut the cord and stay on the roost. As long as she keeps coming off I cannot teach him to roost. If she would stay up there, I think he would stay beside her or his sister.
