Yeah, no EV for me either. We already have a 500+ power bill as it is. Why did you have to write the last part, why? It took me a hour of nickelback and maroon 5 to get that out of my head.
Ya seriously - I was going around singing that song afterwards - and now again this morning hahaha. And I already owe Marie and Bob a song!

Oh dear sorry to hear she is not feeling well, do they think it is RSV? We are having a surge in this infection this year. Sure hope she is ok, and I like that she has asked for the soup - glad she has an appetite (hopefully).

Sorry I had to chuckle at your gramma and the Lysol - what a character. You have your hands full there!

I meant to ask how the baby chick situation was, hope you haven't lost any further to whatever critter was responsible.
No I've not lost anymore. I'm beginning to wonder if it was not a critter and natural losses and I just never found the bodies. The timing fits if they were natural losses as they were under 5 days old. I just cannot figure out how I would loose 3 and not find any signs at all of the bodies.

RSV is a possibility and one of the things they tested for. She was exposed unknowingly a week ago this past Friday. My sister is a x-ray tech at the hospital and was around Rosie then. Saturday she started getting sick and tested positive for RSV on Monday. She said the hospital is full of RSV and that was the majority of her work the past 2 weeks was children in for RSV and chest x-rays.

I was hoping to get some new pics today of moult progress, however.....

Overnight temps: 50sF, like last few days...rain squall before daylight this morning.

Was starting again when I went out to the coop about 8. Kren, Storm and Twirp all wanted out. Spread scratch outside, pellets inside, checked water supply (half full), turned on heat. Went back to house as wind started driving rain drops (those sting and are cold!). Noticed Kren decided was better inside coop and Horus came out...then bolted back inside. Checked thermometer: 39F and falling. Started fire. Took pic

Fire going well, temp down to 36F. Magpies out, chickens in. (30 min time lapse)

It's supposed to clear up a bit later in the day, but if the wind is up, moulters will likely stay inside for the wind protection and the younger crew just because it's chilly and they don't know true winter yet. I'm planning on topping up the wood bin later, so if they're out, will take pics. If not .... they're staying warm.

Hahaha
Nope it’s a YBS they are quite bold and don’t fly off when o go and check them out.

They drill these little round holes in the bark on trees in a row around the tree! I worry that it damages the tree but so far the trees they like to feed on

You know Kris scares me sometimes hahahaha :)

I am hoping wee Jaffar is better today.
I think Jaffar’s cluck is broken. I set his alarm cluck for 5:30 but he still hasn’t crowed yet. Sadly, he’s still sneezing 🤧. He’s right here on my lap.

Cheetah, Whiskey, Hector, Storm, Lark, Indigo, Horus, Nellie, Twirp, Pippa and 2 of the Brahmas (can't see clearly enough to ID) are all out. Wind has died down, rain has steadied, still coming down.

Add Blanche and either Nox or Mera to the list outside...and a Flicker

Aurora is having her molt right now and her bum is naked. I however will not be providing any supplemental warmth unless it gets down to freezing for extended periods of time. Even then it is hard for me to help her because of where she roosts. I would likely have to bring her in the house.
I have four in heavy molts right now, and I am thanking the heavens it’s lovely weather.

The Hen House is warm at night thankfully and the girls that are moulting are either on top of the nest boxes with a full solid floor, or roosting in the nest boxes to keep warm.

Thankfully its lovely during the day with no cold winds! The heavens are smiling on me for that little treat.

But I almost took the Cozy Coop heater out on Monday when it was damp and miserable, but really only Sophia is the worst of them, so I just brought her into the feed room. And gave her treats of course 😊
