Honestly Bob, I don’t think that Jaffar has any parasites, but I won’t take any chances with any of them, because there’s many other animals nearby that may carry the parasites. I want nothing but the best for my kids!

Oh look - we could have solved the egg color mystery before she laid - look at her ear lobe!

Earlobe color is not always an accurate indicator of egg color, but it worked for many of my chooks

Let’s put it this way, if you were a rooster, and had a chance to stay inside, snuggled up with your mommy/daddy on a cold morning, what would be your decision? Well, Jaffar isn’t stupid. He’s staying quietly inside with me. I played his song Rooster, by Alice In Chains. Yah here come the rooster yah yah!!

Good morning. How's things in the great white north

+1 and sunny, if there is an inch on snow on the ground that’s as much.

This is very unusual, and doesn’t bode well for next summers forest fire season

It actually crossed my mind that the deficiency that caused her lameness might have interfered with the development of her egg laying ability.
I haven’t looked into that.
I would like eggs from her - she is not bred to be a high production hen, but a few eggs would be nice! But if she is a lifelong freeloader I can live with that.
She is also very big. I still need to get a weight on her but I can tell when she stands on my foot that there is a lot of chicken packed in there!

I have more than a few free loaders here hahaha.

Winter is here less daylight I bet she will start laying once Spring arrives!
