Poor Bernie, I hate to call her names but yes she is a free loader. She is just slightly younger then the Rural king ladies who are laying up a storm and have been for a while. Thought she may need more time due to her leg issues. Now I have Lilly and Karen who were hatched the end of April and both those girls are now laying. I fear she is going to be called names and be a spoiled princess until the spring now.
It actually crossed my mind that the deficiency that caused her lameness might have interfered with the development of her egg laying ability.
I haven’t looked into that.
I would like eggs from her - she is not bred to be a high production hen, but a few eggs would be nice! But if she is a lifelong freeloader I can live with that.
She is also very big. I still need to get a weight on her but I can tell when she stands on my foot that there is a lot of chicken packed in there!

Does this have a long shelf life so okay to keep on hand? Wondering if I should have it in my kit?

Thinking about this because I just got my resupply of Baytril 10%, the 25 mil bottle is good til 9/2024.

(The old bottle may have 10 mil left, but probably less, but isn’t enough anyway, and I think once opened it might not last? But I’m reading maybe it will be fine until the expiry date - in this case Jan 2024? Does anyone really know? There’s examples of once mixed with water much less?)
I think the dewormer has a longish life.
Bob told me I could keep hold of the Baytril once I opened it. I keep it in the fridge once opened.

Glynda was 27 weeks when she started laying. What's up with this Bernie?

Yes, I have it on hand.

I don't worry too much about going past expiration days. They don't lose that much functionality. Now once a couple of years past expiration I would get new. Baytril is fine after opening. That does not speed up decay.

Safeguard does expire. I just checked mine, it actually expired in June. I think that's about 3 years.

For me it is always how hard is it to get when I need it. Because the worst feeling is not having what you need to help them and the panic with trying to find it.

What a lovely picture of her ......... blinding white!
I dunno on Bernie. But I am not expecting anything until Spring now. Maybe on her first birthday she will grace me with an egg.
