It’s very wet here tonight. I found a roof leak in the spare bedroom near the skylight.
Oh drats! that sucks :( always the way isn't it - a leak when it's raining (but of course ha!)!

Well try to stay dry and warm. I guess it will be the bucket under the leak, been there before!

The cameras are what you would call Peer-to-Peer cameras (which most cameras are these days) - they are activated when I log into the app to view them. The cameras are 'powered on' 24/7 meaning they have power running to them, but not streaming video 24/7. When I log into the app the cameras I am viewing are activated, and start sending me the video feed, and they stay streaming video as long as I have the app running.

For instance right now I forgot I have the app running for the past 30 minutes - but I heard them moving around a bit and some of them are preening - Mr P is one of them.

The area is PITCH BLACK! The Infra-red lights are just red glows on the camera in the dark and don't provide any light to see with (other than one can see the red lights). The only light would be the moon light shining in through the windows, I guess in the winter when there is snow it would be brighter - but we have no snow back home!

It looks bright on the pictures I am posting but that is only the glow from the Infra-red cameras. It's deceiving isn't it! The bright spot on the nest box in the picture is from the camera on the wall shining it's IR light in that direction, and the camera on the ceiling is picking up that additional glow.

Mr P has decided to rest the other way now :)

OK so it's pitch black in there unless you're logged into the App, and that's when the infra-red comes on? And it only comes on when you're logged into the App? That would be similar to my Arlo cameras because I don't have them set to come on and record when there's any motion (I still have one subscribed, you have to pay for this feature). The light comes on only when I activate the camera, I have that set to come on when I activate it. They can see that light! I'm pretty sure they can see infra-red (we can't see it but they can). So when you're logged in, if that is the only time the infra-red comes on, they have lots of light in there then.

Soooo jealous - I went to town yesterday so didn't have time to cook anything when I got back, and today I was run off my feet also! So I had to eat camp food - ugh - nasty! Seeing that just made me hungry! I guess I will see what's in my freezer to eat and chuck this camp stuff :(

OK here is the obligatory whining tax

Last check of the kiddos for the night, everyone is tucked in and sleeping - my internet here is starting to go bad (it's 7pm everyone is starting to get online), so I will hopefully have better internet tomorrow so I can start sharing more photos from my iphone. Everyone have a good night (hope you stay dry Alex).

Not quite

My cameras' IR lights are on all the time, they are drawing power 24/7.

But those IR lights are not bright enough to see normally with. Yes the chickies can see the red glow from the lights, but it isn't bright enough for me to see with - not like a 'night light'.

I have floodlights on my outdoor cameras which I can light up and see in colour.

Or just have the IR to show black and white image.

By_bob's cameras have a flood light (sorry girls teeheehee) so he can see in colour in his coop (how he took his photo of his 4 ladies earlier in colour).

My indoor cameras don't have a floodlight option though.

Even when I am logged into the cameras it is still pitch black :)
