I say she does this on purpose because she has somehow managed to be a house chicken for a few days every so often starting from about the age of 8 months old. When she was injured and had to stay in for almost 2 weeks I think she got used to the good life of me waiting on her hand and foot. No more injuries thankfully, but she will find someway back in for a few days. I want to scream though. I have been buying feather fixer since the first week of November when my flock started molting. It is double the price of their layer feed. Tuesday I fed out the last of it and just bought 3 40lb bags of their layer feed. I really really do not want to have to pick up another bag of feather fixer. I can only find it in 40lb bags and every other chicken are long done molting.
OK - SHRB (should have read back) :)

Wow that's early/late in the year to be molting - poor wee gal. But as you say if she is happy in the house - more power to her :)

Going through a hard molt right now. Naked patches and a mass of pin feathers everywhere. After a week of warm temperatures it dropped yesterday and snowed. It is 29 right now. She can go back out Monday as it is supposed to be back up to almost 60.

Awwww poor gal - in a few weeks she will once again be her glorious self :love

First Egg Ever!!!
Its tiny and perfect its mossy green and has speckles. I am beside myself excited. Due to the color its one the white pullets, Sugar, Flour, or Powder. They didn’t use the nest boxes :( I found it in the extra wind blocked portion of the coop in a corner and nearly missed it, seeing as how tiny it is and the color blended in so well.

:hugs Feed her scrambled eggs and other meaty goodies, protein's what she needs then. Eggs would be cheaper than another bag of feather fixer.
