Bernie will make friends with the youngsters soon enough!
Yes, I suspect she might have been trying the other night when she was hopping onto the roost they were one. I suspect it was friendly, not aggressive, hopping to their roost. Alas, the Math Majors didn't stay long enough to find out, though.

I really think she did have a great chicken life. Right up to the last 48 hours she was quite perky and enjoyed doing chicken things.
Right now I am sad for Bernadette who is roosting on her own because the little-uns are way up in the rafters.
They will soon be too big to fly up there, and then they will roost with Bernie. Have you given any thought to getting another hen to make an even 4?

Probably too soon for that. RC will mourn Diana, let the 3 settle, and think/ponder for a while, while getting to really know Babs and Eli. Bernie will also need time to mourn too.

Yes she looks just like the photos I see, very pretty, and they lay dark eggs, they mature slow and don't lay early (Bernie same???).
No eggs from Bernie yet....unless RC has been keeping MORE secrets..... I like the slow mature/eggs. Gives the hens time to grow enough that eggs aren't as hard on their bodies.

Friday fluff...

But the feathers are coming....FINALLY

And a gratuitous group loitering on the patio (where they aren't supposed to be). It's chilly enough I let them stay.

My window needs cleaning.

Good-bye, Diana. I'm glad to know you left loved in your keeper's arms, knowing that Bernadette will keep your roosting spot warm, and Babs and Elie will make sure to keep your human servant busy.
RC, I hope you will be all right 💚💚💚.
That was beautifully said. :hugs

Ten months old and no sign of an egg from Bernadette.
She has clearly been focusing on her career.
And yes, Bernie is a Welbar.
