When Mal passed there were just 3. Lilly, Hattie, and Aurora. Hattie has never been mean. Maybe she was a little lonely but none of them had the friends they grew up with. They all had to adapt and cling to each other.
Maybe that is the way of the chicken, to adapt and cling to one another, just like we humans. Doing the best we can with what we have 💖

This One's for @Ponypoor
Either you are still up or youre likely to bebupnt trolling BYC tonight. Here is an entertaining video for you of not 1 but 2 roosters taking on a fox. The first rooster flies in to distract the fox from the hen it is trying to catch and the other then runs the fox off. Great teamwork and a pair of brave fellows.

Holy cow! Did you see that Roo? Wow! And that guy can run also!

I loved at the end he picks up the hen gives her a kiss strokes her and shows her to the
Camera and gives a thumbs up!

Awesome job!

I cooked a roast tonight — I am just putting it in the fridge 😊 and yup trolling the site 😊

Tonight's roosting was quite distressing. Poor Bernie was so desperate to get up to join the others in the rafters that she tried to use the electric wire to the flat panel heater as a step along the way. That did not end well.
Nobody is injured and the heater is OK - but I am beginning to get worried she will hurt herself.
I spent a while studying where they go and how they get there to try and come up with a scheme to stop them getting up there.
I am not sure if I can pull it off - but I have some long lengths of sacking that maybe I could drape across the rafters. I am a bit worried they will get tangled up somehow and I will cause more harm than good.
Need to noodle on that a bit.
Poor lonely Bernie.
Can you add something for her to climb to the rafters like a ramp?

Anyone hear from @TX Chick Noob ? Sure hope she is doing ok 💕

I am hoping she is not on here because she is in surgery getting all fixed up and am looking forward to hearing from her when she comes round and stops throwing up.
:fl
Oh how I wish this was true. Unfortunately I have not had surgery yet, haven’t even had an appointment with the surgeon yet. There was a massive server issue that affected the systems of many. many providers Monday. So the surgeons office did it even get the referral. I found this out today and for that taken care of, but was told it is “common” for it to be 7-10 business days after a fracture for the surgery. So I sit here in pain (or constantly falling asleep from the pain meds). 🙄

Thanks for thinking about me.

She truly was a treasure, Maleficent the Magnificent. Enjoy the memories, she knew she was loved and she loved you back.

She was so beautiful and such a good friend to you. Thank you for sharing these memories ❤️

Thats what I call my Maleficent the Magnificent

See if you can get some banana boxes. They're sturdy, and will provide some sides. Set them down where they're laying, add nesting materials. Once they're laying inside those, you can work them closer to where you want them to lay. Don't give up on the boxes you have yet. Leave the peanuts in them. Their curiosity and covetousness will draw them in for the peanuts.
I will look for cardboard boxes. So far I have put the nesting pads where they are laying thinking that they could at least get used to laying on those. So far they just move them so the box may help.
I wonder if the openings are too small?
Perhaps they sure don't seem to like the 7x7 opening, they should fit but maybe they think they cant 🤷‍♀️
Are the nest boxes near the front of the coop? I believe they like to be away from a high-traffic area, not near the pop door, out of the way. Maybe with dimmer light. Maybe that's another reason some people put curtains on the boxes? Or, could you put nest boxes in the back near where they are going already?
They are in the front by the food and closer to the pop door there really isn't a better place the way I have the roosts set up. I may try to redesign when it gets warmer. I am going to add curtains and see if that helps very soon.
