@RoyalChick :

Sorry, I have somehow missed this part of your chicken life. How in the world did you end up with 'Scary' for a chicken name when all the rest were Princess names?🤔

Regardless of which one she is, the pullet is adorable! 🥰 I will, however, continue to assume it is Maggie, as I feel I know ( and loved!❤️❤️) Maggie, whereas I had no connection to Scary. i do hope you are okay with this.
I too assume it is Maggie for the same reason. And Scary was bigger and I never got a chance to really get to know her. She was taken by a fox before the Chicken Palace was built.
I did not name my first Princesses - they came from a school kid’s project and he named them. They became Princesses when they moved in to the Chicken Palace.

I am glad that you have a vet friend that could help. I will say that chickens are amazing healers, so as long as she doesn't get an infection, I believe she will be fine.

that said - do you sew at all? if you aren't squeamish about it, you can easily stitch up a hen yourself -just make SURE any wounds are very well cleaned first. I have had VERY good luck with stitching up chickens. The only one I lost (a duck, actually) was from a racoon attack and she had a deep puncture wound. She was progressing well until about day 4 then suddenly took a turn for the worse. I am positive that it was that the puncture wound was infected - they are notoriously hard to clean effectively - and I had no access to anti-biotics :( Otherwise, I have had very good luck stitching up my girls!❤️
(Though I do wish I haven't had to put that to the test quite as many times as I have had to over the years!)
I don’t really sew, but im interested in becoming a avian vet so i would love to learn how.

Thats awful, at-least you did your best though. So sorry to hear that. :hugs

Dear Aurora

My name is Peep. I am a Japanese bantam and i live in Connecticut, although i am completely breathtaking, with my deep masculine crow and crazy long legs, no girls seem interested in me. Humans compare my masculine voice to a squeak toy or a balloon leaking helium. Is it possible that their delusions are rubbing off onto my lovely ladies? I have had to resort to long, unblinking eye contact from the bushes in hopes i would impress a lady but they still run. I have tried everything from chasing to tidbitting rusty screws and pinecones but alas nothing is working. Even tid bitting food and eating it when they run over before they can. I so desperately need your advice,

clearly, its a girl problem. They always make these weird honks after pooping out their white golf ball and are dramatic about everything. But what can i do to impress these golf ball dispensers?

Yours sincerely, Peep

Thats crazy cute and he is beautiful!

She could be an Americana aka easter egger
True, but one of the most common (not exhaustive) characteristics of the americaunas are beard/muffs. Her egg color will help. I still think she's a barnevelder cross. If she lays dark brown or dark green eggs, that makes it a higher possibility
these chickens are full blooded I dont believe its a cross and she still comes up exactly like a cinnamon queen
I have a bird straight from a reputable hatchery who doesn't fit breed standards at all, but does fit a cross between 2 breeds. It can happen anyway.

gee thanks.... :smack

Hahahaha that Theo is so funny :) what a character! hahaha Next he will be going on a quest!

Love your 'week of photos' - and I just can't get over how Piou-piou has grown into such a lovely pullet - soon to be a hen ❤️

A liaison behind a lilac tree :)
I really like that dark head look - I don't have enough knowledge of red vs blue colouring on the chickens, but I like the look.
Blue vs lavender vs self blue tends to be darker color on the head vs all same color +/- darker "lacing" on the body feathers. Lacing is in quotes because it's a darker shade of the same color rather than a completely different color like the laced wyandottes. There's more to it genetically but that gets technical and I don't follow all of that well enough to explain it yet.
