Oh dear :( don't like the idea of owls being kept as pets - the are formidable hunters and should be out in the wild. Even if I worry about my flock with them around.

Anyway to alert authorities?

Mr P says if they are doing this they are bad people
You tell them Mr P!

Please put a ponytail in his luscious locks. I must see it!

I loved the owl video, then went and found more from the same name, fantastic.owls, then went to a Facebook page that seemed to be connected- same name - that’s selling owls. Uh oh. Didn’t like the sound of that. I thought this was all from a rehab or sanctuary. @LozzyR do you know if these are or aren’t the same?

Anyway that got my antennae up because in New York USA most wild animals can’t be owned as pets, and the state wildlife agencies oversee rehab, sanctuary, zoo establishments. I found another web site with each US states’ owl laws on pet ownership. This Facebook page -that may or may not be connected to the particular broody owl Instagram video we’re talking about (several videos looked like they were filmed in the same location - and maybe they were by the same entity as the broody owl video) was listing San Diego California USA as the business location, and the phone number was a Colorado USA area code, and the email was a personal gmail account. The business started the FB page in the Fall of 2022. Anyway both states do not allow owls as pets.

Kind of wish I hadn’t investigated. :(
Wow, internet fame business model ...

So, turns out I was scammed. I am normally as suspicious as they come. However, this place had over 400 followers on FB hundreds of posts and pictures. Site said all the right things. No indication they were not what they appeared to be. I am absolutely mortified. But I am sharing it anyway because I hope as spring chick fever gets us and those close to us, don't forget to be on guard.

So no Brahma pics just disappointment on multiple levels. :(
I am so sorry 🙁 Hugs to you!!

I am also very shocked! Unbelievably what these scammers will do 😡 Thank you for sharing though.

I must admit, as beautiful and charming as the owl video was, my spidey senses were tingling with thoughts of wrong.

We have a great horned owl that lives nearby. Sometimes I hear a pair. I’m so grateful they are living here in the wild, but hope they never are interested in my chickens. Thankfully, I have only seen one once at dusk, and usually only hear them late at night. Hopefully they’re taking care of the rodent population, which is abundant here.

Aww, such a bummer! So sorry.

OH NO HOW EVIL OF THOSE PEOPLE :mad::mad:

Please make sure that you put a call in to the police as this is a criminal issue now. AND make sure on FB you put the word out to EVERYONE.

Oh I am so very sorry (hugs hugs hugs). This is a reason to use something like paypal to pay for things, they hold money in escrow so that when both parties are satisfied they will get paid. How terribly dreadful of those deceitful evil people.

Makes me wonder what they would have said to you if you said you were driving out to pick them up! What excuse they would have.... OK well for every evil person out there, I am sure there are 100 wonderful lovely people.
Oh, I am livid with them and myself. I am sitting with it for a few days so I approach it with a cooler head then I currently can muster. I have reported it to FB and to the app I used to pay, I believe I will get my money back in the end it will just take a couple of weeks. I will report it everywhere I can though to prevent others from being taken in. I found out I am not the only one they got not by a long shot. They have been booted from our local group.
