Others are more experienced, but I've read here that fairy eggs once in a great while shouldn't be a concern. If she consistently produces weird eggs that would be concerning. Is she new to laying? New layers can lay a fairy egg at first.
No, she is almost a year old. She has been laying well until yesterday. Then today she produced another normal egg.

I have been pondering the bald patch issue. I looked in the yarn bag to see if anything would go with Babs’ coloring. I thought I could use Velcro as the quick release mechanism.

Then I got to thinking about all your advice and instead of making the bonnet I got one of these.

And then because it is Tuesday I also got these.

Yup I did it. I went on a road trip and came back with five chicks. They hatched while I was overseas last week and have been waiting for me. They are 8 days old.
We only just got home and already I am smitten.
OMG they are so cute! Congrats, can’t wait to hear more details.

So, I know a tax payment requires multiple chickens, but I couldn't resist sharing her photo - even though it doesn't do her justice.
I could be wrong but am pretty sure regular tax can be any chicken pic. SHRA tax is the one that requires multiple chickens.

Tax talk tax. Lol

They were a pair. Beetov-Hen was a Brown Leghorn, and Rocks-Ann was a Barred Plymouth Rock. Both well trained and two of the best of my original tribe.
I like their names. And they look really nice! Beethoven is one of my favourite composers.
Somebody once asked me why Beethoven killed all his chickens... See if you can figure that one out...

Since the roost is like a shelf, do you have any trouble with the hens getting poopy fluffy butts since their droppings don't drop down below as in a traditional roost? I have poop boards, but during the winter Isabella frequently slept on the board instead of on the roost and it wasn't great for her fluffy booty.
No, they don’t get poopy butts fro that, but my girls do have some poopy bitts. Likely from the change in diet as they transitioned to going outside and eating grass and such.

I got some additions. A fayoumi hen and rooster.

I'm going to keep them in the dog kennel inside the run for a bit before introducing these two to the group in general. They've got a feeder and waterer. Maybe later I'll grab some chicken wire and give them a quarter of the run. They've got 3 sides of tarp around them, so no worries about staying in the run.

The hen seems to have a real gentle temperment. But the rooster-- or cockerel since he's only 10 months old-- seems to overreact even worse than my leghorns. I'm prepared to cut him some ample slack based on his age and the time of year. He's just a jumpy, silly fella.

I've never had a rooster so I don't know how this is going to go.
Very pretty I thought of getting one of those hens but they aren’t cold hardy apparently.
