Chick update.

Holly had all 6 of her hatched when I went out to sit with Rosie to wait on the bus this morning. Mom checked Momma Hen and she has 4 out of her 5 hatched out. There was a brief Ducky sighting this morning as well. The Brat came off her nest right before the bus ran to grab a quick bite before returning. She was off 10 minutes at most. If I had not been outside at the crack of dawn waiting on the bus I would have missed her. I was getting worried as I had not laid eyes on her since I found her hiding spot and trying to figure out how I would get her off the eggs to make her eat and drink. No worries on that now.

She has been softly tutting at them on and off since I gave her “live” eggs idk how she knew the difference lol but apparently she did. Today though it was a constant stream of soft noises coming from her. Glad to hear confirmation its a good sign.

All this has me wondering about how in the world they know to do all they do. I raised my girls from day old chicks so they never had any other chickens to teach them a darn thing. How on earth do they know all they do? It’s really quite amazing.

What day of incubation on the eggs on now? Constant clucking, you more then like have one internally pipped and she is encouraging it to hatch out. I do not know how they know to do it. Over half of my best hens have been raised by me.

It is day 19 so I would think internal pips are entirely possible at this point. I am so excited, it is quite difficult to not move her and look . I will not, but goodness it’s difficult to just trust the process.

You have to learn to have a 'chicken towel' handy at all times, so if she comes in and hops onto your lap, your lap is protected!

Best to have a chicken towel rather than Philomena/Abigail/Josey poop on your lap.
