Chickens love the beach! That would work great for taking my chooks to the beach!
Well it's rather stressful as those silkies are so darn small - teeny tiny! You must be so happy to have broody raised chicks. I am so glad it happened for you.
In playing with genetics, the only way the blue (grey) could be there is if one of the parents is splash. I'm wondering is he's actually splash laced silver. On some splash the patches are almost non-existent.Yep she is grey - no black on her at all.
I read somewhere that Mr P is white silver lace which is characterized by the feathers looking yellow and or dirty.
Not sure how the colour genetics work in this case.
I am jealous that she has co-broodies. I have 4 mommas currently, not one of them wants to be around the other momma or their chicks. Why can you 4 not work together? It would be so much easier then it is now with everyone wanting to fight the other one. Yes Holly, right now I am talking about you.You must be so happy to have broody raised chicks. I am so glad it happened for you.
I'm processing chickens this and next weekend, and I think that I'm going to assign myself cutting their heads off... we do it in a very humane way though, don't worry.Very admirable. You are a strong woman!
Oh that’s a great idea setting it on a table! No bending over also.I love my little tent. I have it on a table so the little babies are at eye level and I can reach in rather than over the top.
The mesh is very fine so easy to see through and keeps the dust in. My only issue is the one I got is only 30" round so it is a tad small for 5 chicks with all their 'kit'. They do come in bigger sizes so I might look out for when they are on sale and get a bigger one for some future generation of chicks.
The only other issue is that because it is a pop-up there is nothing you can use to hang waterers and if you pick it up it all sags in the middle. Not a big deal but means I need to put waterer up on bricks so it doesn't get filled with shavings.

Good knowledge to knowOk final chick count as everyone is finally done hatching for the moment. Momma hen ended up with 4 chicks. Her 5th egg hatched late yesterday but it was weak and it passed overnight. Between all 4 momma's with chicks I now have 16 chicks running around a week apart. I am impressed with the hatch percentage as well, Gryffyn was the only one who had 2 infertile eggs out of the 4 she was given. Everyone else including Momma Hen even though she lost 1 had a 100% hatch rate of the eggs given. This alone is one reason why in the long run mommas top incubators every time. I have never ever gotten a 100% hatch rate using a incubator.
