Awww - they are pretending to be grownups. Copying the bigs at bedtime.

Aww so cute. Do they stay there? Or do they go back to your brooder?

Tonight I put the tweens in the Hen House, ina nest box for the night. I finished painting in the office and didn’t want to put them back in there with the smell of paint. I closed the screen door and pushes the wooden solid door so that it’s only open about an inch. It’s going to be chilly tonight.

I put my camera so I can spy on them but the darn thing is wifi not hard-wired Ethernet, so the signal sucks. Might have to get up and haul my butt to the barn a few times tonight- as it is I have my alarm set for 5 so I can be up before them, get the babies out before the craziness of morning rush.

Don’t want them in their hen house pinned somewhere they can’t get away from Marty.

A Mother's Day Tribute
April 8th was the 10th anniversary of chickens at Fluffy Butt Acres. I did not feel like celebrating at the time but the arrival of chickens here should be celebrated. So since Mrs BY Bob is the reason they are all here I have decided to celebrate all of her babies.

So we start with the very first chickens to live with us. Who could say no to that face.

I think they are sleeping on the verandah of the heat plate (aka the cat food tray). Stupidly I moved the camera so I can't see and I am fighting the urge to go out and check because if they weren't OK I would hear them crying!
Tonight is the first night I haven't closed them up in their brooder house - I am leaving it up to them where they want to hang out.
They are ahead of where Bernie and her buddies were - but Bernie lost a month with her paralysis, and everyone stayed with her. They are at about the same stage that the Roadrunners were which means I have a couple more weeks before they start bothering the bigs at night.

Got Maleficant in the bathroom. She has Big bump and a small bump on the top toes. (looks like bumblefoot) Just cleaned it and added prid and vetrx. Got colodial silver, nutri drench and homeopathic pain meds in her water. She will probably stay inside awhile. she is not happy lol I lanced the bump and only blood came out so not an infection, sorry didnt get pics.
Next time don’t lance it, better to let it open on its own if it is an abcess. Opening it can cause an infection, a dry dressing will protect it now that you have broken the skin, and prevent any bacteria from entering.

Bumps on the tops of the toes is not bumble foot. It’s more likely she got her toes caught between something.

Better pain meds for a chicken is low dose aspirin, homeopathic pain meds are not pain meds. Also the aspirin will help if there is any fever if it is an infection, and if it’s a twisted or hurt toes it will act as an anti-inflammatory med.

Lastly if it is twisted toes or infection, if she is lame limiting her movement is important. Good luck!

I wanted to put their bin in the hen house but not enough room. I am hoping they won’t be cold, they have a pretty good covering of feathers.

I even thought of bringing them to the house, but they need to grow up, my hope is they figure out to go roost in the nestbox at night.

I know one thing, tomorrow I am going to run an Ethernet cable to that camera!

Can’t get a connection to the camera at all.
