I was just thinking if Bernie was wanting to lay her egg there, I would just remove the egg/golf ball I n her nest she doesn’t need them anyways.

Oh these broodies! Drive is crazy!
OK I have removed the golf ball and the ceramic egg in the upper box.
I have left Eli with the one remaining ceramic egg in the lower box.
Bernie won't be an issue tomorrow - she has never laid an egg two days in a row. Babs who lays every day (which worries me) will just squeeze in or go elsewhere - she is a very accommodating chicken!
I would love the chicks to be a bit more integrated before Eli comes back full force into the community - she is small enough she might really chase them.
How can chickens be so stressful?!

What should we do with this bird? My siblings found it on the street.

I am guessing mild winter.

Better than DEET? I spray my boots, socks and pants with DEET (OFF Deep Woods I think it is called) and I wear permethrin infused cuffs on my long sleeve shirt.
Could you link to the permethrin product you use - I am on Amazon now looking for headgear.
This dropping out of the sky thing is a new issue - I need a wide brimmed hat with mosquito netting. Looking on Amazon now.
Please pass on any other tips - it really is raining ticks out there!
Try bee keeper's outfits

Edit: shra tax
