🎼Outside in the sun, just a mowin my life away, hoping it’s a better day, for me!
A mosquito 🦟 I see, buzzing down to bite my arm, thinkin this might do me harm. (West Nile Virus or worse) I tell my chooks I need to hide and then quickly, I ran inside. Nasty mosquitoes are no fun, and always have me on the run 🏃‍♂️! :plbb

You all do not know how close I came to coming home with 6 more not needed chicks yesterday. Me and dad had to run to tractor supply for fly spray. He is wandering around looking at tack and what not and of course I am scrutinizing the chicks. He walks up behind, peeks in and asks was there any we needed. They only had 5 breeds available, and I had 3 of them. The other 2 were cornish cross which for me is an absolute no no. They had Bielfielders. Straight run, but they are sexable as chicks. 1 problem, me and the employee could not remember which pattern was male or female. Trust me I asked. I left them behind, dad put it I would come home with 6 roosters.
Such willpower, and strength of mind! :thumbsup

And that, right there, is why I buy my chicken food on line in spring and summer. I will not go in to TSC if they might have chicks!

I am sorry to flood the thread with pictures but every time I snap the camera little Sylvie is hamming it up!
:gig
I am intrigued by Sylvie’s plumage - does anyone have experience of silver Welsummer or silver Welbar chickens of this age? She is supposed to look like Bernie but with silver hackles. That will require quite a change from where she is now!

She's looking more like she's going to be Colombian marked: like Silver

Wow. That would be interesting.
I will wait a few weeks - I always forget when their baby molts happen - and then I might send photos to the breeder and ask him. I don't want him to think I am complaining because I will love whatever she looks like, but I am intrigued.

The Littles have come up with a solution to the overcrowding on the top deck. I don’t think Sylvie will accept that at night but she is happy now. She likes sitting up on perches.
I have turned off the heat and removed the side ‘feathers’ to see if they will move to the lower deck. The lower deck tray is more spacious.

Is that a scale the heater is on? Are you trying to determine their weight as they grow? Don't forget to subtract the weight of the apparatus on top, and divide by 5!!!

I think Eli will find she has another 'friend' for forays up into the rafters soon (if/when she gets over being broody, that is.)😍😍
:D

Oh no, but what a wonderful thought!
It is the corner of the countertop in my servants quarters. The brooder/hospital room is built on top of the cabinet that makes up the nest boxes but goes past it and below. So there is a corner that is higher - I figure as chickens like to be high, I wouldn't get complaints if the heating plate was elevated relative to the floor of the rest of the brooder.

Darker stripes are girls, males also have a spot on their head😁

Now hurry and go back and get them!
