In the jungle - the mighty jungle
the velocirators peep,
in the jungle the might jungle
of dandelion leaves..

Wim-o-weh o-wim-o-weh
o-wim-o-weh o-wim-o-weh

Hush my darling, don't fear my darling
the velociraptors creep

Coco is so sweet. I was tucking the chooks in for the night and Coco jumped off her perch and onto my hand. She said something in ā€œRockā€ that I didnā€™t understand, but she is inside with me now. I think she just wants some special attention from me. :love

It is early to me. Sadly that is one appeal for leghorns in the commercial industry. They start laying around 18 weeks. I am gearing up for one day future problems from them. I would have been happier if they had waited a few more weeks, but all the signs were there that the first eggs were coming. I am totally smitten with this group and I am trying to enjoy them to their fullest and not dwell on future potential problems. I did top off the oyster shell dish a couple days ago. I have a feeling these girls will need it.
Your littles are starting to lay? Already?
Oh god do I feel old now! :old :he

I did notice she looks very awkward.?
I like it a lot. Her feet are floaty, thatā€™s where the bit of awkward comes from, because her body and head are beautifully done and feel all of a piece, they work together well. Plus you got the angle of her stance right. Her expression and tilt of the head are quite regal! Itā€™s a very sweet picture. Thanks for sharing it!

Has Branch covered them? I bet silkie leghorn babies would be awesome!

New Food
Everytime I come in through the side gate the chickens have been charging towards the gate. I assumed that it was to break out of the yard into the outside world.

The gate

Turns out it was something else they were after.

Everytime I open the gate, these little pipes fall off the vines.

Apparently they are delicious. The chickens swallow them whole. It is a feeding frenzy everytime I open the gate.

I planted this vine years ago because supposedly the blue swallowtail butterfly likes to lay their eggs on the vines. I do not remember what it is called.

I am amazed at what they eat, I caught buttercup jumping up and snagging the new growth on the Jack Pine so I pick a bunch off and threw in for them all to enjoy.

They have accepted attentions from Branch, Twig and Bubba. Primarily Twig. Of all my boys right now he is the most popular and is definitely getting around. I guess if I cannot have a army of Branchlings, Twiglings is the next best thing. I also have Twig to thank for showing her where to lay. He is a good boy and escorts all the girls to the porch boxes. I think he knows I do not like the game "Find the Easter eggs".
